Athletics carnival

Our school Athletics Carnival was held on Tuesday 7 June (Week 7, Term 2) at Myimbarr Athletics Centre, Flinders. We all braved the cold weather as our students tried their best to get a personal best. All students had the opportunity to try different athletic sports (shot put, discus, High jump, long jump and various track races). It was a fantastic day filled with many achievements! A special congratulations to all our competitors, we understand how challenging trying something new is (especially for our kindy students) and we are all so proud of you. A special thank you to Shellharbour Little Athletics who provided all the equipment and supplied us with some yummy food on the day.

In preparation for our athletics carnival, we borrowed a high jump mat from Lake Illawarra High School. We are very grateful for this as it allowed our students to become more comfortable with the height of the bar while practicing their correct form for the high jump event.

A special thank you to the wonderful parent and grandparent who transported it to our school on another very windy day so our students could practice their skills! Thank you again!

Orienteering

This term Years 3-6 are participating in orienteering as a school sport. Orienteering is an excellent sport option for young children as it helps grow physical literacy skills, build valuable social skills and strengthen cognitive ability. It also includes valuable map reading skills, and helps students to develop positive teamwork and participate in fun and engaging practical activities in the outside environment. The wonderful Miriam has come to our school twice so far and our students have loved learning about how to read maps and going for 'treasure hunts' around the school. We look forward to seeing her and working through her challenges in the next 2 weeks.

Regional Cross Country

A special congratulations to Immy, Beckham and Fleur for participating at the Regional Cross Country on 10 June in Cambawarra. Unfortunately they did not advance to the next level but should be incredibly proud of themselves, as making it to a regional level is a massive achievement in itself.

A special congratulations to Immy W for being selected for the South Coast Rugby 7's team playing at the state carnival in the Hunter Valley next term! Such an amazing achievement. Well done Immy. We are so proud of you.

Such a busy term it has been! Keep it up Windang!
