Anzac Day 2022

On Tuesday the 5/2/22 Mackellar Primary School students were involved in an early ANZAC Day service dedicated to the memory of Australians who have served and died in war. Our Grade 6 Student Leaders did an exceptional job running the commemorative service and bringing our community together. We were overwhelmed by the amount of parents, carers and their families who attended on-site.

Prior to the ceremony, all of our students had been learning about what ANZAC Day is and what it means to each of us. Each student then made a poppy to place in our garden. From there, the ceremony commenced and we heard some from moving words from Andy, a veteran and former soldier, before hearing the haunting notes of the Last Post followed by the national anthem.

The student leaders created an ANZAC Day display using the poppies that each student had created along with the handmade wreaths which can be viewed when entering through the school gym entry.

On Monday the 25/4/22 the Grade 6 Student Leaders along with Jo Wood, Wellbeing and Inclusion leader, attended the dawn service in Caroline Springs where they laid a wreath on behalf of all the students and staff at Mackellar Primary School. We would like to also acknowledge the other students, parents and teachers who joined us for the service.
