SEQTA Learn and Engage

If your child is in the Senior School (Years 7–12) and is unable to attend school in person, we encourage them to keep up with their work by accessing information in SEQTA. This information is visible to both students, through SEQTA Learn, and parents/carers, through SEQTA Engage.

We are aware that currently more students than normal are absent from school due to COVID-19. On most days, approximately half of these students are not unwell but rather, are isolating at home due to being a close contact. Teachers have been asked to make the work outlined in SEQTA sufficiently detailed so that students can continue with their work and not fall behind. If your child is unable to understand what is required, they are encouraged to contact their teacher via email to ask for clarification.

If you need information on how to view the work that has been set for your child's class, please email me at wsforsyth@smc.tas.edu.au and I will be happy to help you.

TCE and ATAR explained

As our Year 11 and 12 students work towards getting their Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), and with mid-year examinations just around the corner, you might find the words 'TCE', 'TASC subjects' and 'ATAR' regularly popping up in conversation.

If you are unsure about what the TCE is or how you can help your child plan their pathway to success, you may find the following guides helpful.

What is the TCE?

This video provides simple explanations about the purpose of the TCE and TCE standards.

More details about how to achieve the TCE standards are available on the TCE webpage, including achieving the Use of Computers and Internet Standard through recognition (when all the other TCE standards are met) and sitting Everyday Adult Standards safety net tests.

TCE Course Planner

Students can use the TCE Course Planner to check that their enrolled courses can provide the TCE standards and credit points needed for their future pathway.

Understanding the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR)

The ATAR is a rank of the overall academic achievement of eligible students within a year group who finished their senior secondary schooling. Watch this video to learn more

The following document explains the ATAR in more detail and provides information about Tertiary Entrance scores, course awards, scaling and course planning. Click here to read.
