Earth Hour & Recycling at Athletics Carnival

Firstly, thank you to all the students and staff at Brentwood for participating in Earth Hour and turning lights off. We walked around the school and were amazed at the high level of participation, so congratulations all!

We think that the 2022 House Athletics was one of the most successful events that we have run, despite us not collecting the most recyclable items. The engagement and positivity that was provided by students and teachers was the most we have ever received, and we would like to thank everyone for that! A huge thank you to the members of the Green Team for your hard work and dedication both behind the scenes as well on the day. You were the backbone of our effort, and we couldn’t’ve done it without you! Thank you also to our ‘V2 Man’ mascot and sidekick ‘soft drink-box-person’ for thinking outside the box (no pun intended) and bringing even more attention to recycling.

Thank you very much V2 foods (https://v2food.com/), for sponsoring your plant-based burgers and sausages for running our Athletics BBQ.

We collected over 400 recyclables, awarded nearly 400 House Points through the Trash Toss, and a bonus 200 and 100 Points were awarded to the winners of the Guessing Jar activity that we ran (in case you were wondering, there were 1695 tags in the jar).

Congratulations to Waratah for recycling the most and being able to throw the best. Jacaranda and Wattle came in overall 1st and 2nd places due to the most accurate guesses of Emma Cornish of 7B2 and Tenuki Mallikarachichi of 9Y2 with the Guessing Jar. Well done!

We have now collected over 3500 recyclable items at these events! That’s a few thousand items that have been diverted from going straight into landfill, and so we would like to thank you all for your collective effort. We hope to set a new record for recycling at our next event, so get ready!
