Important Reminders:

School Drop Off and Car Park

Please note that the school car park is for staff only. There have been a number of parents driving into the school car park to drop their children off and reversing back onto Heath Street. This causes traffic to bank up on Heath Street and increases the risk of an accident or a pedestrian being hit by a car. Where possible, please drop your child off a short walk from the school to help minimise the traffic around the school.

Out of respect to our neighbours, please refrain from parking across driveways and do not use the Glen Waverley South Primary School carpark as a drop off point for students. This simply creates similar issues for our neighbouring school.

Your cooperation is much appreciated.

School Yard Supervision Before School.

A reminder that the schoolyard is actively supervised by staff from 8.30am in the morning. Any students who arrive before this time will not be under active yard duty supervision.

Tutor Learning Initiative to continue at Brentwood Secondary College in 2022

Brentwood Secondary College is delighted to share the news that the Victorian Government is continuing the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) in 2022. This initiative is designed to address the continued impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on student learning and engagement in Victoria.

The extension of the initiative will allow Brentwood Secondary College to continue to provide our students who need it most with targeted TLI learning support in the 2022 school year.

Despite the continued challenges Brentwood Secondary College and schools across Victoria have faced this year, the TLI has ensured that students, who may have fallen behind or become disengaged, receive the help they need. In 2021, the TLI has enabled Victorian government schools, and qualifying non-government schools, to engage over 6,400 teachers as tutors.

Brentwood Secondary Collegewould like to thank all the tutors, teachers and families who were involved in supporting Brentwood Secondary College’s TLI program in 2021. This year, Brentwood Secondary College was able to offer small group learning for 230 students in both Literacy and Numeracy and achieved gains in student engagement, organisational skills and assessment submission.

Brentwood Secondary College looks forward to continuing the TLI program in 2022 to provide small group learning support that will enable our students to flourish now and in the future.

Attendance Reminders

It is a requirement of the Department of Education and Brentwood Secondary College that all student absences are acknowledged by a parent/guardian. This means that the school must be notified of the reason for the absence in writing or by logging onto the Compass Portal. This procedure helps both parents and the school to provide for the safety of students.

Information regarding attendance is available through your Compass parent portal. You are reminded that you can communicate with the House Leaders and/or Attendance Officer by phone or email regarding absences. The school should be contacted if it is expected that your child will be away for more than two days.

See Compass Guide on your Compass parent portal (2 head icon) for entering an attendance note.

Excursion Payment and Consent

It is a legal requirement that consent is given for students to attend and or participate in events such as excursions and sport. Payment and consent on the day or the day prior to an event is not sustainable for the college. Teachers and coaches need to know who is attending events with sufficient notice for buses, providers and fielding sporting teams.

Consent and payment for events is due two school days before the event at midnight – for example if an event is on a Friday, consent and payment will be due by midnight on Wednesday. If the event is on a Monday the consent and payment will be due by midnight on the Thursday prior.

Parents and students will no longer be able to consent and pay for events on the day before an event or on the day of an event. If consent and payment are not received by midnight two school days before an event the student will not be able to attend.

Payment and consent can be completed on Compass, if you do not have a Compass log in please contact the office on 8545-0300.

For families who would like to use Camps Sports and Excursion Fund (CSEF) for payment of an event, please print out students excursion form via compass, complete the written consent and have students hand forms in to the general office with an instruction to use CSEF for the payment using the same timeline as above, two school days prior to an excursion or sporting event. Students can print their excursion forms in the library.

The college appreciates your cooperation and if you have any questions, please contact the general office on 8545-0300.
