Numeracy

We are very impressed with all of the 1/2 students and their mathematical thinking, talking and problem solving during Term 1. During Term 2, we look forward to further exploring a range of problem solving tasks using a range of different strategies. The 1/2 teachers are extremely proud of their student's resilience, persistence and excitement during numeracy lessons. 

 

This term, the Level 1/2 students will be covering the following topics:

Number & Algebra

Place Value

  • Recognise, model, read, write and order numbers
  • Locate numbers on a numberline
  • Understanding two-digit numbers as being comprised of tens and ones

Addition and Subtraction

  • Use a range of mental strategies such as counting on, partitioning and rearranging parts
  • Exploring the connection between addition and subtraction

 Skip Counting

  •  Counting by 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's

Multiplication 

  • Recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays 

Division

  • Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems 

Measurement and Geometry 

Time

  • Discuss the difference between an analogue and digital clock
  • Explore the features of a clock
  • Tell time to the half-hour
  • Tell time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to'

Shape

  • Recognise and classify 2D and 3D shapes 

Measurement 

  • Measure and compare the lengths, masses and capacities of pairs of objects using uniform informal units
