We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

Design Competition

At our assembly last Friday we announced the three winners of the design competition for our new Thank You cards. The judging took longer than expected, after we had so many beautiful and meaningful entries. The three winners selected are each very different to the other, which we love because it reflects the diversity of our community.

We have selected three winning images to form the basis of our designs - a card folding in portrait, one folding in landscape and a ‘With Compliments’ slip. The winning designs were selected based on the aesthetic qualities as well as the meaning or connection to our school culture that was demonstrated.

We extend a big Congratulations to the winners: Rayma Atkinson, Rayyan Ansari and Lexi Hemsley and thank you to all the students who submitted their designs and ideas, all the entries should feel very proud of what was submitted. Check out the winning designs below and keep an eye out for the published cards circulating Brunswick in the near future.

Education Committee

The education committee is a sub-committee of the school council. We are a group of staff and parents/carers who meet up to twice a term to discuss and unpack the educational experiences offered through our school. Sometimes we dive deeply into one part of the curriculum, sometimes we analyse whole-school data and identify trends, challenges or successes and we also address questions and wonderings from parents and carers.

On the 27th of March at 3.45pm we will be having our first meeting. We meet online, and we would love to welcome new members. If you would like to join the Education sub-committee please email Keir (Keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au) and we will include you in the invitation and share the agenda with you.

Student-Led Conferences

Our term one student lead conferences are fast approaching. These conferences will take place online and will soon be able to be booked on Sentral. The student-led conferences give our amazing students the opportunity to share their learning goals and talk about their progress with their significant adults, and are run quite differently to traditional parent/teacher interviews.

Students spend a significant amount of classroom time preparing for the conferences in the weeks between now and the end of term, and it is very important that this preparatory work is done in order for the conferences to both achieve their intention, and so that the student can feel as confident and as prepared as possible.

Due to the tight schedules, we are only able to offer one time slot per student. If families are going to be away, it may still be possible to remotely dial in to the conference, as the teacher will have access to work samples and data that the student will require to guide the conversation.

As our Spectacular Specialists have only limited time available, with the whole school wanting to meet with them, we do ask that families limit their bookings to two specialists this time around, to allow other families to also make bookings.

Booking information will be coming out to families later this week - please keep an eye out on Sentral for further information.

Upcoming Staff Conference

Just a reminder that Thursday and Friday of next week (23rd and 24th March) are student free days. Students are not required at school on these days. OSHC is available for any families who may require the service on these days.

At school on these days, staff will be digging deeper into our adopted Inquiry model. We will share more details and reflections of the conference in the following week’s newsletter, and at the Education Sub Committee.
