Athletics Carnival Green Team stall

Once again, the Brentwood Green Team held a stall at the Athletics Carnival to collect aluminium cans and other recyclables in return for a house point each! Alongside the recycling, fun games were held, including the guessing jar and Trash Toss, which served as another opportunity to win house points. A total of 573 recyclables were collected this year. Thank you to the students and staff who gave their empty soft drink cans and bottles to recycle!

Additionally, the Green Team helped with running the BBQ at the Athletics Carnival, which was a huge success for the entire Brentwood community.

Energy and Waste Audits

On the 27th of February, the Green Team engaged in energy and waste audits to amass data to construct an action plan to increase our sustainability, and to renew our 5-star ResourceSmart School certification.  With the assistance of a facilitator from Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL) and the City of Monash, students from the Green Team collected data from various rooms around the college during the energy audit, regarding the temperature, lighting, appliances and windows/doors.

Later in the day, we completed the waste audit, where we sorted the contents found in the bins into distinct categories (general waste, recycling, paper, pens, etc.), counting the number of items that do not belong in the specific bin. Through this, we were able to identify issues that we could address in the future to further improve our waste management practices. We would like to thank EASL and City of Monash for their help with the audits and with our sustainability journey!

Soft plastics being littered on college grounds was one of the key observations from our waste audit. We thank the students that use the bins provided to discard wastes and request everyone to bring waste-free lunches to the college.
