Australian International Airshow

On Friday 3 March, Brentwood Secondary College students had an incredible experience at the Avalon airshow. The show was filled with excitement and entertainment as students witnessed some of the world's most advanced aircraft in action. From jaw-dropping aerial displays to up-close exhibits, the event offered a range of activities that kept everyone engaged throughout the day. The students had the opportunity to interact with pilots, engineers, and industry professionals, and gained insight into the aviation industry. The airshow was not only a great source of inspiration and knowledge but also a thrilling and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Monash Tech School - Airshow Industry Immersion Day

On the Friday 3rd of March, Mr. Barry's year 10 top gun aviation class were given the great opportunity of attending the 2023 Avalon Air Show. Hosted by the Monash Tech School, we were granted a full day out at the Avalon Airport, where we learnt about all sorts of aircraft, different types of meteorology, technology and space science. All of which topics contained highly interactive and fun tasks.

After the theory part of the day was over, it was time to have a look at some planes! I was truly amazed by the monstrous size of some of the US and Australian air force cargo jets, and was extremely lucky to be able to have a look inside some. The static display was breathtaking, and further amazed me with the significant amount of cool stuff in one small place.

Once the air show had begun, we were treated to a Qantas Airbus A330 fly by, escorted by two Australian Defence Force F-18 hornets, followed by an amazing parachute display. After a few more aircraft exhibits, the most exciting attractive plane performed an array of incredible spins, flips and twists. The US Airforce F-22 Raptor. The sound and power this aircraft produced was immense and severely crazy! Due to the F-22 traveling faster than the speed of sound, the aircraft would fly overhead, and the sound blast would occur a delayed moment after. Unfortunately after that amazing F-22 performance, it was time for us to head off back home.  The entire day itself further inspired me to chase my dreams, and to continue to work hard for my goal of becoming a pilot.

A huge thanks to Mr. Barry for organising and making the day all happen, and for Mrs. Weinberg's for also assisting.

Monash Tech School - Supersport Industry Immersion Day

On Wednesday, a small group of girls doing 1/2 and 3/4 VET Sport and Rec headed down to RSEA park for a Supesport Immersion Day with girls from other local schools from yr7-12.

At the start of the day, we were introduced to high quality technology that are used in the sport and specifically AFL industry. This initiated a great start to the day. The device was called Catapult which we got the opportunity to use them by playing a game of AFL 9s. By playing the game we got to revisit many different skills by working together as a team and play against other schools. Whilst playing, the Catapult device tracked our active movement and physical stats which we were able to see later during the day.

Following this we walked over to the Danny Frawley Centre where we met two AFLW players; Hannah Priest and Georgia Patrikios. These two inspirational women spoke about different opportunities that related to the sport and recreation industry that could be possible future career options for us. Later, they spoke about the successful stories of some individuals who had completed the course in Holmesglen and the amazing outcome it had given them which really inspired us to be involved in a career field like them.

To finish the day, we reviewed our Catapult data from playing AFL 9’s. The data that was shown was really interesting as it showed specific data such as distance run, impact, top speed, work rate and much more. After this we brainstormed some ideas for ways to communicate athletes fitness scores using a range of media apps. All the groups presented in front of the schools.

Overall, it was such an amazing experience and it opens up many opportunities for our future in the sport and rec industry.

Huge thanks to Miss Wrench for organising this event for us to attend, as well as Miss Scipione for tagging along!
