The students were excited to compete in their events last Friday 24 March at Aquanation in Ringwood. They had been keenly training for their Medley relay, plus Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke events, and achieved fantastic results to place in the top half of each event!

A huge thank you to all the parents for their support with the three swimming carnivals.

Mr Perini and I were very proud to watch the boys compete. Their achievements were amazing and their team spirit too.

Congratulations to all the boys and special mention to Josh for placing 3rd in his Breaststroke event and receiving a medal!

Last Friday, the four of us, Jayden, Ethan, Yajwin and myself, competed in the Regional Swimming. It was an amazing effort in our relay and we ended up coming 8th in the Eastern Region. I am amazed at how far we got and I can’t wait to swim next year. I was so excited to place 3rd in my breaststroke event and I received a medal.   Josh C

On Friday last week we swam at the Regional Swimming Carnival. I think everyone did very well. Josh came third for Breaststroke, I came 4th and 5th for Backstroke and Freestyle. It was very hard especially because there were very big kids but I was happy I got to swim. I would like to thank Mr Perini and Mrs Hocking for coming to support us along with the parents.   Jayden T

I want to take a moment to thank everybody who supported us at the Eastern Region Swimming competition. It was an incredibly challenging event which I liked. I can really tell that everyone was trying their best to win. I am happy for those who got a new personal best in swimming, for district, division or regional.
Of course none of this would have happened without the support of our principal, Mr Perini, and our PE teacher, Mrs Hocking. As well as our parents, paying for our lessons, giving us healthy food so we have more energy for swimming and giving us encouragement. I am very grateful for being in the school swimming team.   Ethan F

Mulgrave District Tennis Tournament

Four Essex Heights students proudly represented our school at the Mulgrave District Tennis competition at PLC on Monday 20 March. The conditions were quite windy which made the day challenging. Tihana R, Claire C, Max O and Marcus O displayed great sportsmanship and determination throughout their matches.

At the end of the pool matches Tihana, Max and Marcus played finals as they finished first. After the elimination finals they then had to play more round robin games to determine the two top players.

I was extremely proud of the way our students conducted themselves all day, playing lots of tennis! Congratulations to Tihana, Max and Marcus who will now represent Mulgrave District at the Monash Waverley Division event next term on Wednesday 26 April.

We wish them good luck!

Monique Hocking

It was a good experience playing everyone from the other schools. I had some great tennis matches. I am really looking forward to competing at Division next term.   Max

The district day was fun and I played eight close matches with four tiebreakers. I’m also going to Division along with my brother.   Marcus

I played lots of close games during the day. I was pleased that I played a tiebreaker against a talented left-handed girl. It was fun playing at PLC, which is my sister’s school.   Claire

I was really happy with how I played and I was exhausted after my ten matches. Thank you to the parents for driving and supporting us during the day. Also thanks to Mrs Hocking for her support and cheering us on. I can’t wait to compete at division on Wednesday 26th April next term.  Tihana

AFL Clinics in P.E.

Over weeks 8 and 9, Prep to Year 6 students have had the amazing opportunity to partake in an AFL Clinic run by AFL Victoria. During their PE classes, students have been learning the basics of AFL such as handballing, kicking and marking to strengthen their football skills and knowledge. All students had shown great respect and full participation to the lovely coaches that have taken their time to run the clinics. Over the two week period the students have demonstrated great skill growth and enjoyment to AFL.

Senior School Inter-School Sport

Years 5 and 6 students participated in the Senior School Sports Program (Inter-School Sport) Summer program from 10 February to 31 March.

Girls Softball

"The girls performed well and we were all focused and committed. We worked hard as a team and displayed good sportsmanship. During the season we improved on working as a team and learned more about the game. My favourite parts were playing with my friends and learning new things."   Tihana

Mixed Softball

"I am the captain of Softball mixed team. We had a great season together with lots of exciting games. We all did great during the season with wins and losses but still we all put in our best effort. The most difficult team we played against was Mount View but we still had a great game. I would like to thank all the helpers for cheering us on and giving us tips, and Mr. Tang for being our coach."   Lachlan

Hot Shots Tennis

The students played six matches throughout Term 1 and improved their skills and understanding of the rules and scoring system. Showing excellent teamwork in their doubles matches and great sportsmanship.

Mrs Hocking

I have been playing number 1 girls for Hot Shots. I train for tennis, and I have absolutely loved Hot Shots. It has been an amazing experience and I have loved every moment. Competing against other schools, helping teammates, learning and teaching. Even though we did lose a couple of times I still enjoyed having a challenge and meeting people. My friends and I had some awesome hits and rallies. I learned things physically and mentally; I learnt better tennis skills and to not be a sore loser or winner. Overall, for me I adored Hot Shots and wish we could play it during the whole year!   Mila

We all had a great experience although we lost our matches. We all did very well. We are really proud that we played and put all our efforts into the sport. I think we all did super well while playing this amazing sport. I was so excited to win some of my singles and doubles matches.   Ryan W

Basketball Clinic

We went to Nunawading Basketball Centre for ISS this term. We went five times, and we practiced ball skills, shooting and dribbling drills. We were split into two groups, and we practiced in these groups. In the last few weeks, we played some quick games against each other and on the final day we played the coaches. (The students won 😊). Some of our students have additional needs and they had their own group where they also practised ball skills and shooting. It was an amazing opportunity for us to learn and practice basketball. Thanks to the coaches (students from SEDA college, especially Hayden), Miss Deb, Mrs Easdale and Mrs Hocking!

Endzone

“It was a big privilege to be in an Endzone team with my teammates and our coach Miss Lin. We played some great schools, and the experience was very fun. The Endzone team was a great little team, we have some wins and losses, and when we lost, we still congratulated the other team who won. We always welcomed the schools who came and always said goodbye when they left. Shout out to Miss Lin for being the best coach an Endzone team could ever have and shout out to the Mount Scopus Endzone team for being very welcoming and nice. It was a great Summer sport, and we can't wait to do Winter sports!"   Zerrin A, 5RL

The Winter Inter-School Sport program runs from on Friday 28 April to Friday 16 June. Details are published on Compass. Consent and payment of $45 are due now and not later than 26 April. CSEF can be used for this activity.
