Principal's Report

FESTIVAL NEWS:

Sadly due to the extreme weather the Festival Parade and all other activities will not go ahead tomorrow.

However Sunday will be on and we would love to see everyone come to our stall.

Many thanks to Julie Clarke and Sarah Bailey for all their work preparing for the Festival.

Thanks also to Jimmy for all your work getting the fundraising stall together.

PARADE and PERFORMANCE AT SCHOOL on TUESDAY

Make sure you come dressed in your colours on Tuesday.

At 2.45pm students will be performing their songs.

All welcome.

WARRANDYTE FIRE  BRIGADE:

Our prep, grade 1 and grade 2 students had fantastic excursion to our  local fire brigade. I am in awe of the work our CFA volunteers do and it is great for our students to be able to appreciate it too.

TENNIS CLINICS:

We were lucky enough to receive a grant from Sporting Schools Victoria to run Tennis clinics for our grade 1-4 students. The coaches come from Warrandyte Tennis Club and for our final session we are having a Gala morning at the Club which will be great fun!

(See the photos on the grade 3/ 4 page).

Rubbish Free Lunches

Look at these gorgeous Green Thumbs with their 'Nude food' lunch boxes! We have started our Wednesday "Rubbish Free Lunchbox" competition and the weekly winners are announced at our Friday Assembly. Who will it be this week?

STAFF NEWS:

Stuart Jones Update

I spoke to Stuart today and he now back at home after a triple bypass operation.

We are thinking of Stuart and hoping that he is recovers well. We are extremely grateful to Angela Davidson who is continuing to work with 3 /4 J.

Maddison Dowel

We are very excited to be able to announce that Maddi is pregnant! The grade 1's are beside themselves with excitement. Good luck with your pregnancy Maddi - very exciting times!

RESILIENCE: this topic is so important we will keep it in for a second week!

The Resilience Project set up by Hugh van Cuylenburg suggests that to be resilient you need to have the following 3 things:

Gratitude

It’s about paying attention to the things and moments we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise gratitude by noticing the positives that exist around us, and by being thankful for things, places and people in our lives.

Empathy

Empathy, kindness and compassion are closely linked. To be empathetic is to put ourselves in the shoes of others to feel and see what they are. We practice this by being kind towards other people.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness activities help us to be present in the moment and often create a feeling of calm. We practice this through slowing down and concentrating on one thing at a time. This includes meditation and colouring in.

FESTIVAL UPDATE:

"Show us your colours" Warrandyte Festival - the Saturday only is cancelled

The Warrandyte Festival has unfortunately been cancelled for Saturday 18th March due to fire safety reasons. However, it is still going ahead for Sunday 19th of March - those on the Sunday roster for our food stall are still needed please!

The Street Parade, the choir singing and the Harris girls' highland dancing has been cancelled as this was to happen on Saturday 18th March. A lot of wonderful work by the students had gone into creating artworks ready for our Parade and a lot of practise had gone into preparing for the performance. We will show the Street Parade artworks next week at assembly on Friday.

Once again, a very big and appreciative 'Thank You!' to two of our parents - Jordan Adams and Steph Morgan. They gave up their time to help the students' work be creatively displayed for our Street Parade presence. You're help was much appreciated!
