Cassandra Fernando Visit

By Mr Massouris- Assistant Principal

Cassandra Fernando opened the MultiPride Harmony Wall for the college. The Student Representative Council invited her back to open the wall after her first visit to the school in 2022. Plans had been underway for three years to create the artwork but a pandemic got in the way.

MultiPride leader Asma Saquib talked to Cassandra and the leadership team about the project and what it represents to the students in the college. Cassandra is a proud migrant, a pastry chef, an advocate for essential workers and the Federal Labor Member for Holt. She came to Australia with her family when she was 11, and she has called Melbourne’s South-East home ever since. For Cassandra, opening such a project fits perfectly with her own story as well as the story of many of our families in our college community.

Ms Fernando addressed the whole school in our first assembly for the year and touched upon her journey, as well as the three values that she upholds to this day: hard work, commitment and gratitude.

MultiPride has operated in the college since 2010. Many of our students have found this leadership group a rewarding and life-changing part of their school life. They organise cultural awareness days, and festivals and develop policy and programs to support the schools inclusion and diversity goals.
