Celebrating the Bigger Story!

Tanya Vaughan - Head of Primary

Have you ever walked into the lounge room to find a movie or TV show had already begun, and as you sit down to watch, you struggle to work out the beginning of the story, who the main characters are, and what had happened to create the story line?

Or maybe you walked out of the room midway through a show and did not get to see what happens next? What about the ‘cliff-hangers’….those shows as part of a series that leave you hanging in wonder and suspense?

Knowing the whole story really helps! It brings perspective, it brings context, it brings clarity.

On Tuesday we gathered with some very special guests at our Primary Assembly. It was our privilege to share a time of celebration and praise for the DCC story, and honour those who were faithful in the pioneering days of our College. Forty-eight years ago, ninety students stepped off a bus and into the first classrooms at DCC.

It was the beginning of the DCC story, one which has continued since those early days and is a story that is still being written today. How exciting is it to know that we – the staff, the parents and the students, find ourselves as part of the bigger story, being faithful to the vision, mission and heart of the “Founders” and faithful families of the earlier chapters in the DCC story.

As we think about God’s story and our part in it, our prayer is simple. We pray that through the seeds sown, as individual stories are shared, as community gathers to celebrate, and as learning takes place in each of the classrooms, our youngest learners will come to understand (maybe in years to come), that we as a DCC community are part of a much bigger story. It is a story that continues to bring glory to God – because He is good and His faithfulness continues throughout the generations.

We concluded our celebration with these verses from Ephesians, chapter 3:

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”
