Learning & Teaching

Year 1 News

In Mathematics, the Year 1 students have been learning about 'Location'. We have been exploring positional language such as forward, backward, under, around, left, right, clockwise and anticlockwise. We created maps and mazes and have been using cars, toys, lego and Beebots to give and follow directions. What a fun way to learn!

Year 4 Science 'Mess Scene'

The Year 4 students have been learning about the different states of matter: solids, liquids and gases and how to identify their properties. Last week, they conducted a 'Mess Scene' experiment, observing various substances, stating their matter and describing what they think happened to the substance oncea variation occurred.

Term 2 Visual Art Worskhops

In Week 1 next term, all students will be participating in a 90 minute Visual Art Workshop, focusing on various visual arts skills as listed below:

Prep - Garden/Backyard: This beginners workshop will go over the basics of ripping, cutting and pasting found images to create a beautiful garden scene.

Year 1/2 - Self-portraits: Students will utilise mirrors or photos of themselves and try to recreate themselves through found images. Distortion of themselves will be encouraged.

Year 3 - Safe space: What constitutes a safe space? Students will be asked this question and be prompted to create a visual depiction of this on paper using only collage.

Year 4 - Surrealism: This session will be a discovery of the world of surrealism and how we can create something similar. Students will also play with the idea of pattern.

Year 5/6 - Self directed identity: Students will be tasked with making a cohesive collage which reflects their own personal identity.

As the workshops are 90 minutes long, a double Visual Art lesson has been allocated. Therefore, there will be NO Physical Education lessons on April 26 & 27.
