Immunisations

The Australian Department of Health and Aged Care announced that on 6 February 2023, Australia changed its schedule for the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil®9 on the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

What is considered as fully vaccinated for HPV?

-All immunocompetent people will be considered fully vaccinated for HPV after a single dose of HPV vaccine Gardasil®9.

-Immunocompromised people need three doses of HPV vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated for HPV.

If someone had their first HPV vaccine dose prior to the schedule change, do they need to have another dose to be considered fully vaccinated?

All immunocompetent people who have had their first dose before the schedule change are now considered fully vaccinated for HPV, and do not need a second dose.

We have the Maternal and Child Health Nurses coming Tuesday 28th March (and Tuesday 10th October) for our Year 7 and 10 student's immunisations as part of the NIP.

If your child/children are to receive a vaccine,

- Please ensure they have a good breakfast, including a drink

- Please encourage them to increase their fluid intake to reduce the risk of a headache after the vaccine.

Asthma

With school sport now in full swing and the seasons changing, it is a timely reminder to parents that if asthma has been ticked as a medical condition in Operoo that we require you to attach an asthma management plan to Operoo. Medications nominated in the asthma management plan must be supplied to accompany the child at all times during the school day and overnight, if boarding.

Ideally students have been educated in using a puffer with a spacer and should carry both, particularly to sporting and excursion outings. Please check medications regularly to ensure they have not expired.
