ACC Sport

ACC Triathlon

On Sunday 5 March, a number of students represented St Bede's College in the annual ACC Triathlon competition.

We were lucky enough to win both categories: Team Relay, and Overall School Champions. Our 'Top 4' student times were combined to form our overall school time. The time recorded for our 5th place finisher would have earned first or second place at each of the other schools, showing our depth in the sport.

'Team 2' won the Team Relay category, while Gab Incani, Zane White, Jamie Ritzert and Daniel Henry were our 'Top 4'.  Joe Hetherington was only a few seconds behind Daniel as our 5th place finisher.

Gab Incani won overall, beating students from both ACC and other schools, as well as the general public competitors.

ACC Sport - Grand Final Results

1st XI Cricket

The 1st XI Cricket team, along with Coach, Lis Burn, travelled out to St Bernard’s College to take on Whitefriars in the Grand Final. Captain Sam McKean lost the toss and Whitefriars made the bold choice to send us in to bat. This proved to be a mistake, after St Bede’s got off to a flying start despite the loss of an early wicket. At drinks (17 overs), we were 2/96, having just lost Will Blitz for 47 after a 67 run partnership with Oliver Peake.

The strong batting performance continued, with Sam McKean (28) and Oliver Peake (57) putting together a 65 run partnership consisting of shots of both power and beauty all around the ground. We lost some wickets late in the innings going for quick runs, but ended with 9/186 off our 35 overs – a great score after being sent in.

Whitefriars got off to a solid start but were always behind the run rate. At 1/43 they looked poised to have a serious crack at the target, but then wickets started to fall. A blinder of a catch from Rogan Kitts at mid-off started the rot, and the wickets just kept falling. The second wicket fell at 43 and was followed by wickets on 52, 52, 52, 54, 54 ,54, 59 and then the 10th, with the Premiership-winning wicket falling when Whitefriars were all out for 68, securing a very comprehensive win.

The pick of the bowlers was Luke Sullivan, who finished with 4/15, along with Oliver Peake, whose 3/5 went well with his top score with the bat.

A fantastic victory which secured back-to-back Premiership titles.

Is a 3-peat on the cards?

The Grand Final XI (in batting order): Will Blitz, Saxon McLennan, Oliver Peake, Sam McKean, Luke Sullivan, Jake Matthews, Finn Chandler, Jasper Trumble, Rogan Kitts, Austen Gillard and Liam Burn.

ACC Tennis

Unfortunately, Brett Reidy and our Senior Tennis team - who had been undefeated for two seasons - were defeated 5-7 by Whitefriars out at Melbourne Park. Whilst all individual matches were very close, Whitefriars consistency across all players in their team has to be acknowledged; they were deserved winners.

A special mention to Josh Chu-Wise, who remained undefeated by winning the #1 Singles match in an epic 9-7 set that went for over 90 minutes! Josh has remained undefeated in all ACC Tennis Singles matches during his time at St Bede’s College. Special mention also to Josh and Andrea Tanti, who have been undefeated in ACC Tennis and our #1 ranked Doubles team for the last two seasons (playing as Year 11's last year).

2nd XI Cricket

Another tough Grand Final loss for St Bede’s College in the 2nd XI T20 Final. After restricting St Mary’s to 4/114 off their 20 overs, we fell short, finishing all out for 104 (full details in table below). St Mary’s 1st XI had a number of incredibly strong individual players and, despite the result, it was a great effort by Greg Roberts and his team.
