Grade 6 Health Day

Grade 6 Health Day – Personal Hygiene

Last Friday all of Grade 6 took part in a Health Day of which the focus was on personal hygiene. Given that COVID, influenza and gastro continue to occur in our lives maintaining good personal hygiene practices is so important.  Over the course of the day, the students were learning about different aspects of personal hygiene, why it is important and strategies on how to maintain good personal hygiene.  To do this students engaged in a range of activities including brainstorming, designing their own personal hygiene product, exploring cross contamination, evaluating handwashing techniques and discovering areas for improvement, prioritising hygiene products and created a board game focusing on an aspect of personal hygiene. Here is a little sample from the day:

Today we learnt about hygiene and why it is important to maintain it.  We did a cross contamination and a Glitterbug activity. I had fun making the hygiene product and presenting it.

Something that was so much fun was the Glitterbug hand washing activity.  I learnt that hand sanitiser only kills the germs and doesn’t wash them away.

I learnt how to wash my hands properly.  I had fun when we did the detective activity to find out who was the contaminator and when we made our personal hygiene products.

My favourite thing I did today was making the poster since we got to research facts about our aspect of hygiene and work in groups.   We learnt that we need to use shampoo, soap and many more items to stay clean on a daily basis.
