Grade 3-6 House Sports.

The Grade 3-6 House are getting closer and students are in full swing practising for the events. The House Sports will be on Thursday 23rd March. Students should come dressed in their house colours. The events begin at 9:20. Recess is at 11:00 but lunch will be earlier, being 1:10. The afternoon running events begin at 1:50 and presentations at 2:50pm. We would love to see families supporting the students.

Our 1500m event will be held one week earlier than the House Sports. The date is Thursday 16th May beginning 8:15am on the gravel track around the oval. This event is optional, but used as selection for the District Athletics team.

District Athletics Thursday 30th March.

The District school team for athletics will be selected by the results from our House Sports, along with the earlier 1500m and lunch time High Jump trials. SSV – School Sport Victoria, has a policy that students can only compete in 2 individual events and a relay. The Ballarat District hasn’t been following this policy previously, but we are implementing this change in 2023. The main outcome is that it will provide more students with the opportunity to participate, whilst maintain the pathway for students who excel in events.

Competitive Sport in 2023.

All inter-school sporting events in Ballarat this year will begin at the Division Level (with the exception of Athletics) The District Level competition was seen as a ‘have a try’ event. This means that qualifying times/distances will need to be met before students and teams are entered. The swimming sports has followed this procedure for the last 4 years. The implication for our school is, in an event such as Cross Country, where the first 4 competitors were entered, it will now be the maximum of 4 students who meet the qualifying time. If only one runner in an age group meets the qualification then only one runner will gain selection for that event. This is to ensure that our events come in-line with SSV.

There are still some vacancies in Grade 3-4 Tennis that is held on a Tuesday lunchtime. Students can be enrolled via Compass.

Division Swimming Sports

Congratulations to Chloe, Isabel and Matthew for competing at the Division Swimming Sports last Friday at the Eureka Swimming Complex. Our students all had a great day did a fantastic job competing in their first school swimming sports. Thank you to the parents that assisted with transport and supervision on the day. We are proud of the way these students represented our school and look forward to future events that they choose to compete in.
