The Sparkle Times

Introducing the Sparkle Times

Welcome to the first edition of “The Sparkle Times, a special newsletter with all the latest MPS Arts news. With so many things going on in The Arts at Murrumbeena Primary School, we felt it was a wonderful idea to share it with the MPS community. As part of the MPS fortnightly Newsletter, you can now read about the incredible things happening in Performing and Visual Arts. Articles will be written by Ms Nugent and Ms Marquis, as well as our fantastic Year 6 Arts Leadership team. Each edition will celebrate some of the amazing opportunities students have in the Arts. You will read about the lunchtime performance groups, extension groups, performances, special Arts events, what’s happening in the Arts classrooms, and all the many Art experiences at MPS. We hope you are as excited as we are and look forward to you all becoming avid readers of “The Sparkle Times” .

Introducing the Arts Leadership Team

Every year, Year 6 students, at MPS, join a Senior Action Leadership Team. This program allows students to nominate an action team that they are interested in, and work with that team and supervising teachers throughout the year on a variety of projects. This year we were overwhelmed by the number of students who wanted to join the Arts Leadership team. As part of the special first edition of “The Sparkle Times,” we would like to introduce the 12 passionate and active visual and/or performing arts students who will be the outstanding 2023 Arts Team. The team will have the opportunity to work with Ms Nugent and Ms Marquis on a variety of projects throughout the year, including "The Sparkle Times”, this year’s MPS Production, the Art Exhibition and lunchtime groups. The team meets with Ms Nugent and Ms Marquis every week to discuss projects, brainstorm ideas and set actions for each team member to work on. Within this team, we have two Performing Arts and two Visual Arts Captains who will help lead this team, as well as assist Ms Nugent and Ms Marquis.

Team Member Bio: Oliver B

Hi I’m Oliver B and I’m one of your Performing Arts captains for 2023. I am very thankful for getting this role and I promise to carry out my responsibilities over the year. Ever since playing the role of Aladdin’s friend, Kassim, in last year's production, I have felt a special connection with the Arts. Recently I’ve been enjoying playing with the Year 6 Street Drumming Group and singing with the Senior Performance Group. I have also been given the role of drumming assistant with the Year 5 drumming group. I strongly encourage students to join one of the many groups running at lunchtime. Right now the Arts Team are discussing lots of ideas for the year ahead and we have already started to organise an end-of-term lunchtime activity for the Year 2 students, which will hopefully happen in the last week of term. During this lunchtime activity, we will run drama games, sing and have lots of dancing. Please listen out for announcements to learn more about this and other opportunities.
