SLC Update
THE EVENTS, SOCIAL JUSTICE AND CASUAL DRESS DAY TEAM
The Events, Social Justice and Casual Dress Day Team has achieved a lot over this time while we are in remote learning. We had been working really hard to think of International days we can celebrate online. We celebrated International Nurses Day by getting as many students to send through a photo or video of themselves thanking the nurses. It was then put into a video and shared it around our community via Facebook. See it HERE
We also celebrated IDAHOBIT day which stands for International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Students sent in a photo of themselves wearing rainbow or colourful clothing, that was then put in a collage.
Our latest project we are working on is the next Casual Dress Day on Friday 19 June in which we are supporting the McGrath Foundation. We are putting together a video to educate and share some stories to students and teachers about Breast Cancer.

STUDENT VOICE TEAM
This term while in remote learning, the Student Voice SLC Team has been working extra hard. To ensure that the voices of Frankston High School students are heard, the SLC created and sent out two surveys:
The first one was sent to all Year 8 students to get their feedback on tutorial and help improve it. The Student Voice Team is now in the process of analysing the results and coming up with a way to implement all the wonderful suggestions. The second survey that was sent out was a whole school feedback sheet. This survey aims to further improve both of our campuses and the welfare of students. SLC have been working to ensure teachers and students are understanding each other and teaching in a way that resonates with them.
While in isolation SLC have also been posting inspirational photos, videos and pieces of text to keep students motivated and doing their best. We encourage all Frankston High School students to complete the whole school survey which can be found on their Compass Newsfeed.

INTERNATIONAL TEAM TEAM
We have been hard at work during remote learning to ensuring a positive attitude shines through our school community. As a group we have made up many little positive facts about happy things happening in the world, unrelated to COVID-19. We have also been in regular contact with our international friends and family to check in, from this we have made a little video of friends from various countries in their native language, which will be shown at the upcoming remote digital assembly. We can’t wait to share these with you and to see you all back at school soon!

INTERACT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TEAM
During remote learning we have been working on many projects. One of our project has been gathering motivational quotes for around our school, these quotes are to uplift students spirits when feeling down during class time, they are also aimed at building positivity in our school community. We sent out an email to the school so that people can vote on which quotes they want to have displayed in their classrooms. Once the results for the survey are in, we will be creating designs for the posters.
Another project that we are excited about is painting an Indigenous mural on the 7-10 Campus. This mural will be representing the Indigenous peoples of this land and the Aboriginal community. We are currently in contact with and planning to work with a local Indigenous group to bring this mural to life. We are organising where this mural will go in the school. The Indigenous group will be coming up with the design for the mural. Lastly, we opened up a survey allowing application for new members to the Interact and Community Team. This makes our team have more opinions and enforce more ideas leading to better projects and benefits for not only our school community but the wider community. Thank you to all that have applied. We will be in touch shorty.

WELLBEING TEAM
During remote learning, the Wellbeing Team have still kept in touch with each other through Microsoft Teams. We met at 12:45 on a Monday and discussed all our ideas. We worked on posters which promoted the SLC Wellbeing Team and the Frankston High School’s Wellbeing Team. They provide general information about who is on the team, where the wellbeing offices are and how to schedule an appointment. We also worked on posters for R U OK? Day. We are hoping to run a bake sale on R U OK? Day to promote the day, which is on 10 September. The posters share why it’s important to have the day and some other information.
Some of the wellbeing members created a ‘Mindful in May’ digital magazine which was sent to all students and staff every Monday. The digital magazine was full of tips and ideas to stay mindful during these tougher times. Each week had a different theme; an introduction to Mindful in May, staying mindful and getting creative. In Week 2 we ran a baking competition with the help of Mrs Stepahnie O’Kane and the Food Tech Department. Thank you to all who entered and voted. Congratulations to Charlotte Thompson (Year 11) and Ruby Piemonte (Year 7). The teacher winner was Mrs Sharon Bourne. Then in Week 3 we ran a colouring/drawing competition. The winner will be announced soon.

NEW SLC MEMBERS AND PROMOTIONS TEAM
Even during the current COVID-19 situation, the SLC team has been hard at work, organising events and planning important dates for the rest of the year! Being a part of the ‘New SLC Members and Promotions’ team has been an incredible and fulfilling learning curve. In meeting every fortnight, indirectly over a Microsoft Teams group call, we have consolidated aspects of our group dynamic in relation to achieving the common goal, and because of the dedication, cooperation and perseverance of all group members, despite setbacks online learning may have posed. I am super proud to say that we are right on track for the progression of the rest of the year!
For the period of remote learning, our team has been working on organising the application process for individuals who may be interested in joining this amazing in school initiative. Through drawing on concepts and qualities that we feel reflect the essential values our school upholds, we have written an ‘expression of interest’ form, for students to complete, which will be the first stage of submission into the SLC. In addition to this, we have started brain-storming collaborative exercises for students who are successful in the application stage to engage in, in a small workshop like structure, to help with the selection process before a final interview! Although dates have not been fully confirmed as of yet, we are planning to release the application form towards the end of this term, for them to be submitted in Week 1 of Term 3, so if you’re interested don’t forget to apply!
