WELCOME BACK TO OUR SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS

It was wonderful to welcome back our Senior School students on Tuesday 26 May after weeks of remote learning at home.

I would like to congratulate our students who embraced this new way of learning.  Their enthusiasm and dedication was outstanding in terms of attending live lessons and completing work in the weekly planners.  VCE and VCAL students have shown great initiative, energy and resilience in meeting the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.  The students interacted regularly with their teachers and the students are well placed to successfully continue their studies on their return to school.

The VCAA have stated that the General Achievement Test (GAT) will now take place on Wednesday 9 September and the Year 12 examination period will occur from Monday 9 November until Wednesday 2 December.  The revised dates will provide sufficient time for teachers and students to complete the adjusted VCE Unit 4 learning and school-based assessments and prepare adequately for the examinations.  They also allow for VCE and VCAL students to get their final results and ATARs before the end of 2020.

Parents, carers and guardians have made outstanding efforts to help the delivery of remote and flexible schooling over this term, and I would like to thank you most sincerely for the support of your children and Frankston High School.

I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our teachers.  Their efforts over the past couple of months have been enormous.  We had to move to a remote learning environment very quickly, embrace new technology and a new way of teaching and learning.  Our teachers demonstrated, as always, great professionalism and resilience throughout this change.  I would like to sincerely thank our teachers for all of their efforts.

Finally, I would like to thank Mr John Albiston for his outstanding leadership throughout this period.  In addition to following DET and VCAA guidelines, he always had the interests of students, staff and parents as his paramount concern, as evidenced by the comprehensive guidelines that have been developed for Frankston High School parents, students and staff.

PREMIER’S VCE AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE VCE

Each year students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education are recognised at the Premier’s VCE Awards.  These are prestigious awards and to achieve at this level, students have performed in the top 1% of the state-wide cohort undertaking the particular study – ie the top five students in the state.

Congratulations to Lucy Cripps who received the Premier’s Award in Physical Education.  Year 12 PE teachers (Mrs Carolyn Walsh and Mr Brett Cook), myself and Mr John Albiston are looking forward to attending an awards presentation later in the year to celebrate with Lucy and her family.  This is such a wonderful achievement, well done Lucy.

MID YEAR EXAMINATIONS

All Year 11 and Year 12 VCE studies will have an end of semester examination.  These examinations will occur at the beginning of Term 3.

Students must have a study/revision timetable in place and consistently review their class notes in preparation for these examinations.  Any students who would like assistance with study skills are most welcome to contact one of the Year Level Coordinators, Kirsten Bakker, or myself for assistance.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

I would like to remind parents and students of the attendance policy in the Senior School.  Seven unexcused absences in a study and/or fifteen absences in a study results in an N result for that study.  Students must ensure all absences are annotated by the coordinators or office staff on the absence card in their diary.  Students must also ensure this is shown to all of their classroom teachers.  In order for the absence to be excused, parents/guardians must provide a note with a specific reason for the absence:  illness, funeral etc.
