OUR GREATEST GROWTH CAN COME FRM OUR MOST CHALLENGING TIMES

As term 2 draws to a close and we head towards the end of what has been an emotionally and socially challenging six months, it is worthwhile to stop, take a breath and reflect. Despite 2020 being a year (so far) of psychological upheaval, it has been reassuring to know that one constant has been our children’s schooling. Yes, learning changed, but we adapted; Yes, lessons were on-line, but learning (albeit altered) continued; Yes, we were pushed out of our comfort zone, but often the greatest growth comes from our most challenging times.

We accepted that things were not as we had previously known them to be and for many it was truly a moment to reaffirm that school (and in particular our school) was/is a wonderful learning community. The return to face to face learning for most has been overwhelmingly welcomed. We are proud of our students and the manner in which they have returned to school.

  • We finally had the opportunity to celebrate the appointment of out year 7 Class Captains;
  • The SRC efforts in contributing towards the installation of the college flagpoles was acknowledged as the college flags were raised by our flag monitors – Vasilisa Semenets and Flynn Megahan;
  • Our debating teams participated in (what has now become) a remote debating competition. Congratulations to the B team for winning and for Ayden Boztepe on receiving best speaker.

We move forward re-grouping and re-focussing as a college community. We draw strength from our collective purpose and seek direction and re-affirmation from our college values. Working ‘Respectfully’ as a ‘Team’ with ‘Integrity’ and ‘Empathy’, in pursuit of ‘Excellence’ and growth, helps us to better develop aspirational, resilient individuals who will be able to successfully navigate through current and future challenges.

Thank-you to all the parents who, despite the current circumstances, support the college by ensuring that their children are in correct winter uniform, take note of key communication and respectfully adhere to published timelines.

By the end of this term students in years 8, 9, 10 and 11 will begin making elective and subject choices for 2021. We encourage parents to look at all the options with their child(ren) and to keep abreast of dates when all preferences have to be submitted.

On behalf of the principal team, we wish you all a safe and restful break and look forward to welcoming you all back to our ‘normal’ in term 3.

Sincerly,

Lee Angelidis
