HEAD OF SWANS

Tournament of Minds

Tournament of Minds has been running at The Riverina Anglican College for the past few years. Students from Years 7 to 10 are invited to take part in this year’s competition, which requires teams of 7 students to answer a major problem, then present their answer in a creative way.

Our teams will spend two lunchtimes a week generating ideas, creating scripts, props and costumes to impress, rehearsing and refining their performance. The teams will build skills in team building, lateral thinking, improvisation, drama, problem solving and creativity.

This year, the competition format will be a little different – there will only be one ‘Super Challenge’ which will be filmed and submitted online for judging. The challenge will be released on 29 July, which will then give us six weeks to develop and refine a solution.

Nomination forms can be completed at https://forms.gle/wL2mFHSPUHtLeynp7 and must be submitted by 24 June.

Chess

Last week we were finally able to play the next round in the Country Secondary Schools Chess Competition. Our chess team, comprising Charlie Dore, Hudson Crofts, Owen Raby and Brandon Collins, played virtual games of chess against Tumut High School. Once our team was able to secure the connection with their opposing players, they played fast paced games to secure three wins and one loss within 20 minutes. Congratulations to the boys on a successful round of chess!

The Interhouse Chess competition will begin early next term. Players of all abilities are invited to join in the games in the library during Tuesday lunchtime. Keep an eye on the notices for details on entering the competition.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact our students and there is no specific testing process for our students. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact me.
