Campus Stories

Have Your Say
Inspired by the popular ABC Series, 'You Can't Ask That', the Year 11 General English class presents 'Have your Say'.
This was an oral task where students needed to give their perspective on proposed changes to the Australian system for classifying films and video games. Students assumed the identity of a particular character of their own devising, dressed accordingly and presented in our mobile television-type studio.
Mr van der Tang's creative teaching on display once again.
Great work everyone!
Year 6 Club Leadership
It has become a bit of a tradition that the Year 6s at Busselton develop leadership skills by forming lunchtime clubs for the younger students. According to their teacher, Mr Meyerink they have done an amazing job!
For the next 5 weeks, on Fridays, students will get to take part in a range of options, which include games, chess, sport, dance, acrobatics and art. Well done Year 6s!
Service Period Success
Recently the College was awash with mouthwatering aromas from the Home Economics classroom, when the second round of social-distancing service occurred. The Secondary hospitality team delivered yet another amazing meal of vegetarian lasagna, salad and garlic bread for very grateful staff. This event forms a key part of their certificate level qualifications.
Well done, ladies!
Robot Wars
The Secondary School Robotics option has recently had a competitive edge included. Students were given a few weeks to design and make a robot that could play soccer. The challenge was taken up and some pretty great head-to-head encounters occurred this week. Mr Meyer has a strong love for the science and technology streams in the school, not to mention an incredible capacity to deliver engaging programs for students – and we are delighted to see the enthusiasm displayed within this class.
Well done, everyone.
Canoe Capers
Mr Spencer and Mrs Langenhoven took the The Outdoor Education students out on Geographe Bay late last week. On such a beautiful winter's day, the students were able to practise several important skills as well as some of the practical components that is a part of their course. Only one canoe capsized on this occasion so it was definitely a highly successful morning!
Great weather for it!
General English Project
Recently, the Yr12 General English class completed a major creative writing project. As per syllabus requirements, they were expected to write a series of diary entries around a dystopian scenario.
Here's Mr van der Tang's explanation:
'We chose to imagine a world where everybody bar the Yr 12 English class mysteriously disappears. By creating a fictional world with fictional characters (albeit inspired by the real world), students have really engaged with this exercise producing journals that look the part! Yesterday's lesson revolved around filming students reading extracts from their diaries to create a video montage - soon to be released!'
Can't wait to see what the result is Year 12s!
Tintin featuring in Year 12 English
Well, this could be fun to watch!
Last week, the Year 12 General English class started a new topic. Each student was allocated a different Tintin story to study. The culminating activities include a “Journey through Tintin” display where the members of the class will be dressed up as their favourite character from the Tintin series.
We aren't sure who is going to enjoy this more - the students or Mr Tang! Watch this space.
