Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

St. Mary’s Sunday Celebration of the Eucharist Invitation!

All school families are invited to attend Mass on Sunday, 5th March at 10am at St. Mary’s Parish Church! It would be wonderful to see as many children and families attend this Mass, especially our sacramental students for 2023. The children are welcome to sit with their families at this celebration.

We will invite all families to join our St. Mary’s Parish family in the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist/ Mass twice a term. The next Sunday for Term One will be Sunday, 26th March at 10am.

Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Church season of Lent.

Ash Wednesday signifies the beginning of the Church season of Lent - a forty day period where we are asked to reflect on our lives and make changes to become the best people we can possibly be.

Here at St. Mary’s Primary School, our motto invites us to “Let your light shine.”

Perhaps this Lent is a great time to reflect on what this means for each of us in our lives.

During Lent, we are asked to focus on THREE main actions:

PRAYER - making prayer a part of our daily lives.

FASTING - giving up something that may be stopping us from letting our light shine.

ALMSGIVING - taking up something that will help us to live life to the fullest and be our best selves. This includes giving to others.

Send your coins to school on Friday. March 3rd!!

The Grade Six Social Justice Team will be conducting a Money Line on Friday, March 3rd at recess time to raise money for Project Compassion.

Each class will be given a letter from the word, CARITAS, and be asked to place coins on the chalk outline of the letter on the concrete area of the school.

A total for the money raised will be added to the class’s tally for fundraising during Lent.

All classes are trying to beat Mr. Gibson’s class, who usually win!!!

Project Compassion.

Caritas is a Catholic agency that works with communities all over the world to help them achieve their development goals and build a better future for all community members.

The saying, “Give a person a fish and they eat for a day - teach a person to fish and they eat for a lifetime” sums up the philosophy of Caritas.

Each year, Catholic schools in the Sandhurst Diocese support the work of Caritas through Project Compassion.

Project Compassion boxes will be sent home this week for all families to fill with any coins or notes you may be able to give over the next six weeks.

Project Compassion boxes can be returned to the school office when filled or before the end of term.
