GETTING TO KNOW OUR LOCAL FEEDER HIGH SCHOOLS

Brigidine College Randwick, Corpus Christi College Maroubra, Marcellin College Randwick, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College Kensington and St Clare’s College Waverley.

We have had the pleasure of hosting our local feeder High Schools and receiving information packs about what they have to offer, in the past few weeks. Each High School has provided us with information about the opportunities that are available to our students as they step into a new phase of their learning.

The children from Years Four and Five were very interested to hear about the ways in which High School would be different to Primary School and how a typical day unfolds. They were even able to welcome some former students who shared their High School experiences. Our students had many questions to ask and were reassured about the support they would receive and the interesting new learning and range of experiences they were going to be able to enjoy, for example: Commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Design and Technology, Food Technology, Creative and Performing Arts and Languages, just to name a few.

OPEN DAY

Like Mrs. Baker, I would like to acknowledge every one of our Year 6 Class of 2023 for the outstanding manner in which they contributed to our very successful Open Day last Thursday. From the moment I informed them of their role in the day they were enthusiastic, motivated and keen to share all the things about St Aidan’s that they love and appreciate. It was a wonderful ‘real world’ experience for each of them as they engaged in the process of introducing themselves to people they had never met before, acknowledging the young people who were coming to experience our school and expressing in a coherent and informative manner all the special features of St Aidan’s. Their welcome and knowledge was appreciated by all the families who visited us and we are very proud of each and every one of them.

AFL Auskick

Bella from AFL Auskick came to Assembly last Monday to speak about the Eastern Suburbs Girls Only AFL program. She was encouraging the girls to join in four weeks of fun where they would learn AFL skills, activities and games. It is for ages 5-12 and will take place every Thursday from March 16 to April 6 at 4:30-5:30 p.m.

NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY

At the National Young Leaders Day on March 7, our School Captains had the opportunity to experience real-life stories of leaders in a variety of fields and to be inspired by their stories and insights.

A report by Billy and Fiona

Miss Birchall, Fiona and I attended the National Young Leaders Day at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour. On the leadership day we met lots of great leaders.

We started our day by being introduced to Chris Green who once captained the Sydney Thunder Cricket team and from Chris Green we learned that even if you think you're at a high standard of being a leader you can always push yourself to reach a higher standard. Once Chris Green's coach put him as 'Second Captain' before the game but he eventually achieved being Captain by pushing himself.

Nazeem Hussain was born in Sri Lanka and it was hard to find a job, never mind trying to be a leader! However, after he came to Australia he tried different things, discovered he had a talent and after a lot of practice, has become a great comedian. He really made us laugh.

Catlin Bassett told us that nerves are good because it means you care about what you are doing. She also said that you don't have to be the smartest or the most athletic person to be a great leader because leadership is the most important quality of a leader, and don't be afraid to try something new.

His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley told us to serve the people we are leading because that is why you are the leader. His Excellency also told us that you don’t become a leader to show off and to make you look good. The reason for leading is to help people. In other words, to lead people the right way and always be fair.

Dr. Jordan Nguyen told us that if we put our mind to whatever we want to achieve, we can achieve it. He said that when he was younger he would never have been able to create robots or even study them but as he got older he started to lean more towards technology. Now he has helped many people with a disability. A quote he says is “One Life, Persist to Improve Many”.
