Dear Parents and Carers,
Understanding how your child learns can make their education a better experience for all. Learning and school is not a one-size fits all. Children have different ways of learning which education experts have roughly grouped into three basic styles – auditory, visual and kinaesthetic. Auditory learners may remember information by talking out loud and enjoy being a part of a group discussion. Visual learners prefer to see what they are learning, may like to draw or doodle as they are listening and like to write instructions down. Kinaesthetic learners like to move around while learning, touch things in order to learn about them and talk with their hands.
In a class environment these different learners all need to be accommodated for. At St Aidan's the class rooms are full of a variety of learning opportunities where teachers understand that children learn differently. Lessons incorporate a variety of different methods, from class discussions, visual presentations on the class Smart Boards, songs or other musical activities to assist with remembering, small group activities, mind mapping work and the use of concrete materials and whiteboards to build, count or describe. Please view the images below for some of the fun activities that occurred this week at St Aidan's.
This term we farewell Mrs Melissa Hoad. We congratulate her on her full time appointment at St Margaret Mary's. We thank Mrs Hoad for her commitment to St Aidan's over the past five years. The St Aidan's staff, students and community will miss Mrs Hoad and wish her all the very best in her new role.
During the last school holidays two St Aidan's students volunteered their time to help at the 'Kids Giving Back' project. Annabelle A (Yr 6 2022) and Kian F (Yr 2) joined with other children and assisted in making 12,500 hot & cold meals, breakfast boxes, snack packs, care packs, writing empathetic, positive messages to 13 charities around Sydney. We are so proud of these St Aidan's students for showing compassion and leading by example.
A huge thank you to all who were involved in making our Open Day such a success. Thank you to all the families who delivered Open day flyers. Thank you to our amazing Year 6 leaders for giving guided tours to our visitors. We received extremely positive feedback about your mature and informative tours. We had many new families who visited our school on Open Day. When they were asked how they found out about our school the most common answer was "Word of Mouth". It is so wonderful to hear that the broader community is speaking so highly of our school.
We have yet another addition to our playground. We now have artificial grass in the undercroft area. The students are thoroughly enjoying this newly upgraded playground space.
Randwick Council have now changed the NO PARKING signs that are directly outside St Aidan's on Maroubra Road. The new signs that have been installed read "5 MINUTE PARKING" 8am-9:30am and 2:30pm-4pm. This will allow parents to be able to get out of their cars to drop off or collect their children and return to their car within a 5 minute timeframe.
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend.
Take care and God bless.
Warm regards,
Rachel Baker
