Aboriginal awards achievement

In 2022, three deadly students from LPS were successful in achieving awards in academic or improvement in a specific area. The awards encompassed quite a significant portion of the South West Sydney area with students from a number of schools nominated. These students displayed a high level of aptitude and were rewarded for their efforts. Congratulations to Tyrone Welch-Potts (5/6T in 2022) and Oliver Cooke (1/2B in 2022) for receiving awards in numeracy achievement and Sabrina Davison (KR in 2022) for improved attendance.

Sydney South and Sydney West School Performance Directorate awards

At the end of 2022, three staff from LPS were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to LPS with nominations for school performance directorate awards. These staff had their excellence recognised in front of the St Andrews Principal network group at Leumeah High School.

Congratulations to:

Mrs Ebony Celin – Beginning Teacher category

Mrs Angela McGlinn-Hall – Executive category

Mrs Leanne Pritchard – School administration category

In 2023, we have one new staff member and some staff returning from a period of leave or time at a different school.

Mr Daniel Evers joins LPS after several years teaching across the public and private systems. He will teach 5/6ES with Mrs Jayann Spence. Mr Evers is at LPS Monday to Wednesday, teaching 5/6ES on Monday and Tuesday. We welcome Mr Evers.

Mrs Tansy Boutskaka initially started at LPS in 2015. During this time, she has been on class and in a variety of support roles, however, spent some time casual teaching in 2022. She returns to us in Stage 1 for 2023.

Mrs Jayann Spence (nee Walsh) was with us in 2020 to early 2022, when she took leave to look after her baby. She is returning to LPS in 2023 to teach 5/6ES with Mr Evers every Wednesday to Friday. We welcome Mrs Spence back to LPS.

Mrs Jenni Bartlett worked regularly in the office at LPS for several years. After some time at other schools Mrs Bartlett has returned to LPS. Mrs Bartlett will be replacing our regular administration staff and supporting in the office two days per week. It is great to have Mrs Bartlett back.

50 Years of LPS

2023 is 50 years of LPS! There will be a few events and things taking place this year to commemorate this occasion.

The first of these recognition events is the 50 years school photo which will be taken on Tuesday 21 February 2023.

The second of these events is the P&C movie night held on Friday 24 February. The movie night will be free entry thanks to our P&C. Meal and snack options will be available to be purchased on the night. More information about this will be available soon.

The P&C still require some assistance on the night. If you can help, please head to their Facebook page, and follow the links.

I would like to thank the P&C, particularly, the tireless work of Mrs Tracey Oates as the president, for providing this event for our families and community. It will be an opportunity to meet some new community members and connect with old friends.

Behaviour Code for Students

As it is the beginning of the year, it is timely to remind students and parents about the expected behaviour from students attending a NSW Department of Education school. Attached is information from the department about expectations from students and the actions that can be taken to achieve these. Please read through the information carefully and reiterate with your child about how they are required to behave and act when attending school.

School Community Charter

The NSW Department of Education school community charter acknowledges that when parents, students and school staff collaborate in a respectful way with strong communication we ensure cohesion and support between school and home. The charter also outlines the responsibilities and details behaviours that are unacceptable of parents, carers, educators, and school staff in NSW public schools. Departmental information about the school and community charter is attached to this newsletter.

If you have any questions about the Behaviour code for students and the School community charter please contact the office.

Update about work around the school

The space between E and G Blocks has been converted to an outdoor learning area. Work finished just before the school holidays.

The retaining wall next to the hall and ramp have also been replaced with concrete blocks making them much safer.

We anticipate that work will begin next week to begin to replace the wooden sliding doors with aluminium windows and doors. This will require classes to be relocated for a day or two, so they can continue to learn. You will be informed if your child’s class is affected.

Air conditioners are installed in every learning space. The power to the school needs to be changed to the substation that has been installed. We expect that changeover to occur during April. After this all the units will be commissioned and able to be used.

I look forward to an exciting and productive year at LPS.
