News from 4 / 5

Our class has been very productive and working really well as a team over the last few weeks.  We have come up with many great ideas for our class wall displays. So far the students have designed some great positive well-being posters to go on display, some great WOW words to go up around the room and some tips for Mathematics and some creative poems about how to look after the environment. The grade 4's and 5's  have enjoyed being creative and adding to the learning atmosphere of our room.  Here are some samples of what the children have produced to put on display on our walls There.

WOW, Writing!

During our writing sessions, we have been working on using WOW words and descriptive language in our narratives. We have also worked on improving the start of our stories by using attention-grabbing starts such as using dynamic conversation, Onamatepia, and detailed, character or setting descriptions.  In addition to this, the students have been exploring what a clause is and how to join simple sentences together using connective words such as; and, so, for, but, however and although.  All the grade 4's and 5's have written some fantastic story starts that have impressed both their teachers and peers alike.

I have included some samples of a few digital pieces that were based on a book read last week called "Girl on a wire'. The students were required to use the words from the book and use their digital skills to make a poster that they could then take home with them.  We hope you enjoy some of these samples.

Inquiry

This term, the topic we are studying is  'Our Community'.  The grade 4's are exploring the topic 'First contact' which has involved looking at the life of convicts and the journey of people from the First Fleet.  The grade 5's have been working with the grade 6's investigating the roles and responsibilities of the government.  All children have been working on these topics during reading groups, writing sessions, and also during inquiry sessions. I have been impressed with how resilient and flexible all the children are being when asked to change classrooms and teachers and their behavior has been fantastic also.
