Awards Presentation Evening
Monday night saw the presentation of the 2022 academic awards as well as a number of general excellence awards for around 65 or so students across the school. It was well attended and a great celebration of student achievement. Oliver Bradley, a Year 10 student who was an award winner from last year, performed ‘I Say a Little Prayer for You’, by Aretha Franklin, on the piano. The significant role that the teachers play in supporting such achievement was also acknowledged on the night; a big thank you to our teachers for the support they provide not just to our high academic achievers but to all students across the school.

Classroom Learning Culture
St Bede’s College is committed to continuous improvement, particularly in the area of teaching and learning. In support of this, a learning habits rubric was introduced in 2022; all students across the school are assessed by each teacher according to this each term. It endeavours to make explicit and, in turn, recognise and reinforce some of the behaviours that educational research would suggest contribute to quality learning.
A copy of the rubric - which was developed in collaboration with parents, students and teachers - is below. The hope is that in looking at the medium to longer term, the learning culture in the classroom at St Bede’s College, continues to improve. Developing our young people as effective learners not only sets them up for success in their chosen pathway. It gives them the ability to cope in the future, for when faced with an unknown and uncertain world, as they most certainly will, they will be able to ‘learn their way through it’.
In support of the ongoing implementation and development of learning culture in the classroom at St Bede’s College, an opportunity to gather more information on the finer points of the rubric, as well as how it will be utilised, will be provided for parents. This will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 21 March, 2023, in the Auditorium of the Mentone Campus at 7.00pm. If you are interested in attending, please be sure to book via the link below by Friday, 17 March 17 so we have an indication of how many will be in attendance.
