Bentleigh East

Last week we passed the midpoint of Term 1, giving us an opportunity to build on the great start to the year and set our plans for the second half of the Term. Ash Wednesday has occurred, and marks the commencement of Lent; an opportunity to pause and reflect on the significance of the weeks preceding Easter, when we will celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.

This Term we have had a number of Bentleigh East students participate in the ACC Athletics Carnival as part of the College Athletics Squad. Thank you to all students who attended trials in the weeks leading up to this event, and congratulations to those who were selected as Squad members.

Last week, our final Year 7 Homerooms completed their camps to Phillip Island. These experiences are invaluable for our newer students; a time to strengthen relationships with their peers, as well as enjoy a number of adventure activities and some local Island attractions. Thank you to the College Outdoor Education staff, our Year 7 Homeroom teachers and the Learning Support Officers who accompanied each of these groups.

The Year 9 students are currently preparing for their camp to be held later this Term at Lake Eildon.

Thank you to all staff who are assisting and coordinating Clubs for our Bentleigh East students. There have been good numbers involved in Chess, Languages, Science, ICT and Mathematics already this Term. These clubs generally operate during lunchtime, and provide opportunities for students to further develop their interests and to complement their studies.

Congratulations to the students from each year level who were presented at the recent Academic Awards Evening. These students achieved excellent results in their 2022 studies, and exemplify the importance of being consistent and having good practices with both classwork and home study.

In coming weeks, the students will be busy with their studies as we continue and complete various units of work across all subjects. Each student should be focusing on achieving his own Personal Learning Goals, drawing on the support that surrounds him at school and at home, while preparing to respond to the different subject tasks and unit testing that comes with their school work. This response becomes increasingly important as we move further into the Term.

Mindful of our Lasallian Theme for this year - Together we serve – locally and globally - let us use these coming weeks of Lent to prepare for Easter with the knowledge that, through our own actions, we can make a difference. We do this by building positive relationships with others and supporting those around us, especially our neighbours in need.

Live Jesus in our Hearts, Forever.
