Principals' Update

District Swimming

Congratulations to those students in Years 3 to 6 who attended today’s District Swimming Carnival at Fitzroy pool. To make it to District is a fantastic achievement, and we are very proud of you all. Many of our students are also competing at the Division Swimming Carnival on Tuesday, 14 March, at Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre Pascoe Vale.

Welcome Gatherings

Thank you to all parents/carers and extended family members who have been able to attend the Class Welcome Gatherings. These gatherings have been very well attended, and we hope that they have provided the opportunity to catch your child’s teacher and connect with other CNPS Families. We hope that activities such as the Welcome Gatherings and the Meet and Greet at the start of the year are assisting with strengthening the partnership between home and school. We are very excited about the School Fete on 26 March, as this has been a long time coming, and we are trying very hard to reconnect with our families after the two years of lockdowns.

Foundation to Commence Full School Weeks

Next week our Foundation students will attend their first full week of school. Up until now, they have had a rest day on Wednesday that has provided Jacqui and Eoghan with the opportunity to complete one-on-one assessments with their students on this day. We will also welcome our Foundation students to their first School Assembly next Friday.

Respect for School Staff

This a reminder to please be respectful towards our school staff. This year we have had a number of occasions when parents and carers have been given a direction or instruction from a teacher when on the school grounds or at a school event, and they have been ignored or dismissed. Our staff will only ever give an instruction or make a reasonable request, and in most cases, directly in relation to the School’s Child Safe Standards or Occupational Health and Safety Policy. When a member of our school community ignores a request or direction from a staff member, this indicates a lack of respect for the staff member’s authority.

Supervision of Students Before and After School

Our school staff are out in the playground on yard duty at 8:45 am in the morning and until 3:45 pm in the afternoon. Any students in the playground unsupervised outside of these times are at risk. In the past, we have had unwanted people not connected to the school pass through the school grounds in the early mornings and after school. We ask that if your child does need to be on the school grounds outside of school hours that you please book them into Before and After School Care to ensure their safety. Thank you in advance for your consideration as we work together to keep our children safe.

150 Year Anniversary

This year, Carlton North Primary celebrates its 150th year as a school. The school’s official birthday is 28 July. We are seeking an expression of interest from CNPS families and the wider community to form a 150-Year Anniversary Committee to lead celebrations of 150 years of schooling at CNPS. If you are interested in joining this committee, we ask that you email the school carlton.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
