Prep Learning Community

Welcome to the Prep Learning Community!

Our Prep students have hit the ground running this year and have enjoyed beginning their journey as 'school kids!'

Students have had a focus on ensuring that their space is safe, calm and ready for learning. They have worked on identifying safe people in their lives that can help them if they ever need it.

Enjoy the video below of our Prep Learning Community sharing some of the work they have been doing!

Year 2 Learning Community

Welcome to the Year 2 Learning Community! Over the past few weeks, we have been settling in to our new Learning Community and continuing to build our routines.

In this video, you will see how our first hour of the day looks. In this session, we complete our English learning, which has three seperate parts:

  • Sounds Write
  • Reading Fluency
  • Handwriting

After we have finished this learning, we move into our 'Deeper Learning', where we focus on vocabulary, comprehension and writing.

We also have found lots of other things that we love about school, make sure you watch to find out!

Auslan

Let’s start off on a positive note. Our highlight so far this year is that it has been absolutely fantastic to see lots of students coming back to school using greetings in Auslan and not only that but many able to have basic Auslan conversations. This has given us goose bumps and we are delighted to see growth in students learning Auslan.

We at ACS are very lucky to have 3 Auslan teachers this year; Andrew, Cara and Janelle. Exciting times, from observing students with their peers and developing skills of conversation. Students have participated in activities including practicing social courtesies such as taking turns and asking questions. Students have been improving and increasing their vocabulary related to “weekend" themes.

One more thing before we dash off, do not forget there is also Auslan Extra which is shared fortnightly in the newsletter. Click on the 'Auslan Extra' page if you’re game to learn more!

Exciting times, and we are looking forward to working with your children!

PE

In the first two weeks of the P.E program the students helped set a Positive Climate for Learning through team building activities and completing a fitness circuit.

Through these activities, students learnt how to display the expectations in PE classes, followed game rules and got to know their peers and PE teachers. We place a huge emphasis at ACS around good sportsmanship, throughout activities we encourage collaboration and care and at the end of every activity or game we ask that our students shake hands with their peers and offer an encouraging word.

The PE team are proud to say that over the last two weeks, students have gone out of their way to display good sportsmanship.

Sporting Legends and Local Sporting Clubs Wall

Throughout the year, if you have a child who is kicking goals (both literally and figuratively) for their local sporting club, please let one of the PE teachers know so we can celebrate their success in PE and at assembly. We also display photos of students in their sporting club uniform on our Local Sporting Clubs wall in the gym foyer.

Please send a photo via email to your child/s PE teacher so we can add it to the wall! This display has created a great sense of club pride around the school. It is also a great way for other students to see who at ACS is part of a local sporting club that they may like to join. Check it out next time you walk through the gym hallway!

2023 P.E Team

This year, the PE team consists of Zoe Lewis, Rhiarn Wilkinson and Gabby Mayer.

Ready, Set, P.E!

To ensure your child/ren are prepared for their PE classes, please check the day your child has PE and support them in bringing the right gear!

Students need to have:

- Running shoes

- Wide brimmed hat

- Water bottle

- Clothing that they can run and jump comfortably in

- Hair tied back and jewellery removed

Performing Arts

This term in Performing Arts we are focusing on Dance.

Students have been working hard in dance, showing their understanding of movement sequences but also displaying their school values. It’s been wonderful to see all students participating and trying their best.

This year in Performing Arts we are so lucky to have two teachers. Bec who has been with us for 4 years and Kiam who is brand new to the school. Both Bec and Kiam are super proud of everyone and the effort they are putting into their learning.

We look forward to continuing our dance learning this term.

Visual Arts

Hi ACS community.  We’re Leanne, Steph and Wendy!

This year we are super lucky to be the ACS Visual Arts teachers. We are all feeling so excited with all of the Artworks we have planned and to work with everyone on their contributions to ACS’s first in-person art show!!!! The theme for our art show is “Colour & Glow” which is also guiding our learning.

This term, students in Prep and Year 1 are exploring colour and the order of the rainbow in their artwork.

Year 2 has kicked off the year exploring painting with UV glow paints and creating simple bubble prints.

Years 3 & 4 are both consolidating their understanding of mixed media and collage creating layered apple collages and 3D Venus fly trap works.

Years 5 & 6 are both exploring new ways to use familiar media creating acetate portraits and blinking origami dragon eyes.

In Secondary School, students are exploring the use of movement in their artwork. They have created a movement collage and simple movement landscape.

We can’t wait to share the artistic talents of our students in Term 3, keep a look out for more information soon!
