Today is a great day to be you!

Child Safe Standards

In 2021, the Victorian Government reviewed the Child Safe Standards, which were first embedded in schools back in 2016. The review led to significant changes to the Standards, which were rolled out as of July 2022. All Victorian Schools must abide by the Standards in order to demonstrate their commitment to child safety.

As a school, this led to an updated Child Safe Code of Conduct, Risk Register and a range of School Policies. All staff at Rangeview undertook Child Safety and Mandatory Reporting training earlier this week, and all staff have signed the Code of Conduct to acknowledge we will uphold the new Standards.

The policies that were updated over the past year include:

  • Child Safe
  • Responding & Reporting
  • Wellbeing & Engagement
  • Inclusion & Diversity
  • Bullying Prevention
  • Yard Duty & Supervision
  • Digital Learning
  • Complaints
  • Visitors
  • Volunteers

These policies can be found on our school website if you are interested in further reading. We are strongly committed to ensuring our students feel safe and have a sense of belonging at Rangeview.

Making Kids Sport More Affordable For Families In 2023

Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, has announced that applications for the Get Active Kids Voucher Program opened earlier this week.

Eligible families can apply for vouchers of up to $200 and use them at their registered Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider without having to worry about upfront costs. The vouchers can help pay for sporting equipment, uniforms and memberships in a range of activities – even learn to swim classes for toddlers.

There are more than 1,600 activity providers registered across Victoria. Almost 80,000 vouchers have been snapped up in previous rounds of the program, with nearly a quarter of those helping children join a local sports club for the first time.

Importantly, about half of recipients surveyed indicated they would not have been able to participate in their chosen sport or activity without the voucher.

To be eligible, kids must be aged 18 and under, a Victorian resident, named on a valid Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and named on a valid Medicare Card at the time of application. A special consideration stream is available to support children residing in Victorian Care Services, temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants and international students aged 18 and under at the time of application.

Clubs, associations and organisations can register as a Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider to be able to redeem the voucher from the Government. To be eligible they must be affiliated with a recognised state sporting association or equivalent governing body.

Applications for this round of vouchers close on 10 May. Families can also continue to claim reimbursement for expenses already incurred from 28 November 2022 to 10 May. For more information go to getactive.vic.gov.au/vouchers.

The Resilience Project - Parent/Carer Event

Add this event to your calendars now! On Wednesday 15th March, from 6:30pm-8:00pm, Martin from The Resilience Project will deliver his flagship ‘Discovering Resilience’ presentation to our whole school community. Come along to enjoy his high-energy humour and captivating storytelling! Martin will share simple, practical tips we can use everyday to improve our wellbeing.

Why a Parent & Carer presentation?

When building positive mental health in schools, we know the best impact happens when we work together. It is so important to us as a school that 1) we educate our students about resilience and positive mental health, and 2) these values are also embedded in the culture of our staff and wider school community.

The ‘Discovering Resilience’ presentation helps do just that by sharing the evidence-based strategies that are being taught in our classrooms, so they can be also practised at home and beyond. Attendees will also be reminded of the importance of their own wellbeing - we bring the best versions of ourselves to our family and community, when we make time to look after ourselves.

Please feel free to share this link and information about our upcoming Resilience Project event with anyone from our school community, including any family and friends.
