Year 7 Camp

Year 7 went to ‘The Tops’ in Week 2 for their 3-day Camp. The theme of the camp was ‘The Power of Kindness’ and students did an outstanding job in building new friendships with peers and in pushing themselves and others to take on challenges. Three students have provided their insight into camp.

“I enjoyed camp because of the variety of activities. I was able to attempt activities from abseiling to go carting. I also enjyed my cabin group. My friends and I enjoyed having fun and playing boardgames and eating lollies. I found that the activity groups allowed me to meet a lot of new and different people which was very fun.”

“I loved about camp: The Giant Swing was very scary although I loved it and wished to do it again. The next activity is abseiling, this looks so scary. At first, I was not going to do it but I did it and it was so much fun. Something that I learnt is that things may look scary at first but if you have a go they are usually really fun. I had so much fun and can’t wait for another camp. I loved camp!”

“My favourite thing about camp was the exciting activities and overcoming some fears. I loved the giant swing, abseiling and the high ropes course the most. Something I learnt was how to talk to new people. Overall, it was an amazing time and I enjoyed it a lot!”

Create and Connect

This term Camden High is running a second round of "Create and Connect" with students from Year 7.

Create and Connect is a wellbeing group program that brings together 15 students one period per week to chat all things self-care and wellbeing, while participating in painting, sculpting or other artistic pursuits.

The program is run by Big Yellow Umbrella, who created the program to allow students to connect to their creative side, learn new skills, meet other students and build strategies to improve mental health.

Students experience lots of benefits from participating in the program: anxiety is reduced, social participation and engagement is increased, and new skills learnt.

Most importantly, the students have FUN! Most of our students want to return to the program again and again!

So extending a big thank you Big Yellow Umbrella for bringing this program to our school, and our students.
