Principal's Report

Acting Principal’s Report 10th February

WELCOME

To all students, families and our lovely community, welcome to Lyndhurst Primary School in 2023.

Last week I had the pleasure of going into each classroom and seeing our students involved in a range of engaging activities. For our Year 1 to 6 students, there was a lot of reconnection between friends, which included excitement out in the playground. Our Preps started last Tuesday and got into the swing of routines and expectations swiftly. They are competently out in the yard with the rest of the school this week.

STUDENT LEADERS

Miller Hurrey, Charlotte Preyer, Srutha Nekkanti & Samuel Thurgood with Acting Principal Jamie Sharp.

Charlotte & Miller are our 2023 School Captains, and Srutha & Sam are our 2023 Student Representative Council Chairs. They successfully and confidently lead our first school assembly on Monday and will be joined by other student leaders in the upcoming weeks.

FLYING START

Starting the new year our teachers, support staff and students spend time together to determine the classroom and school environment. This is essential for everyone involved to harmoniously understand what the expectations are across all subject areas, as well as outside in the yard. These sessions are co-created with a lot of ‘Student Voice’ to make our school a place for high-quality teaching, learning and engagement.

Some of the activities this week have included setting up Welcome Circle sessions, going through behaviour expectations, setting up class work and several ‘getting to know one another’ games. At assembly this week our school leaders interviewed some of the children across various year levels about their Flying Start experience. The most popular activities amongst most students were interactive games and connections made with friends.

Today we have our Flying Start Celebration Day. It is a significant moment for our children to recognise how working together in a positive environment enables people to achieve. I hope your child enjoyed the day.

PARTNERS IN LEARNING

Our Partners in Learning sessions are an opportunity to visit your child’s learning environment and to see and hear about their programs, routines and expectations. This session helps to provide clarity on how the school will support your child, as well as the ways in which parents and carers can assist with their child’s learning.

The sessions will run from 4pm to 5pm each afternoon, starting on Monday 27th February through to Wednesday 1st March 2023.

  • Monday - Year 1 & 3
  • Tuesday - Year 2 & 5
  • Wednesday - Year 4 & 6

We look forward to seeing you at the Partners in Learning sessions. More information will come from your classroom teacher in the coming days.

SWIMMING

Coming up we have our swimming programs across the school. Our Year 5 and 6 students will head to Mt Martha Life Saving Club to learn about water safety at the beach. This is a vital program for children in these year levels, as it teaches the importance of safety in and around the water and what to look out for whilst at the beach. These sessions are highly engaging and a must for all students.

Our Prep – Year 4 students will develop swimming skills in the pool, as they build the necessary techniques required to be safe around water. This program is also essential in your child’s understanding of water and supports them to be confident.

Regards,

Jamie Sharp
