HASS Semester 2

Term 3 – Geography

The students will describe the characteristics of different places and describe similarities and differences between these places. They will identify interconnections between people and places. They will describe the location of selected countries and the distribution of features of places. Students will recognise that people have different perceptions of places and how this influences views on the protection of places.

 

Students will compare and contrast Australia with one of its neighbours and/or with a country in either South America or Africa.

 

Term 4 - History

The students will revisit Australian History, Who was here first? This topic will look at and investigate in more detail, the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia up to the early 1800s.

 

We look forward to planning a visit to the Aboriginal galleries of the South Australian Museum as we tune into this topic and begin finding out some interesting facts and details about the past. 

 

The students will explain how communities changed in the past. They will be able to describe the experiences of an individual or group. They will identify events and aspects of the past that have significance in the present.

The Arts

In the arts, there will be a focus on learning about other cultures in semester two.

 

The students will create and perform dances to communicate ideas. This will include exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance and dances from other cultures.

 

Students will collaborate to plan, make and perform dramatic actions.

 

In visual arts, the students will be researching artworks of different styles and artists from different times and cultures to inspire their own representations and experimenting with visual conventions to create particular visual effects.

 

Students will examine music from a range of cultures and compose music to communicate a message.

 

The students will also be engaged in a variety of design tasks, including creating rain forest creatures and board games using a variety of media.
