From the Director of Students

Mr Baldino Vetrano

Dear College community,

Over the last fortnight, I have been impressed with the way students have been preparing for the end of year exams. Many students are holding down excellent patterns of study and are continuously engaging in exceptional learning practices in the classroom. As exams draw closer and the year is nearly over, we hope students remain focused and motivated right to the end.

The College Merit system

Week 7 this term will be the ‘cut off’ week for a College Medallion.  75 points are required to achieve the prestigious medallion and I am very excited to announce that many students have already achieved the quota for 2020.

I also congratulate Year 7, who have now taken the lead in the overall standings with 11,442 points, closely followed by Year 9 on 11,222 points

White Ribbon Day 2020

“White Ribbon Day is our opportunity to bring people together – in person or online - to raise awareness and commit to action to prevent men’s violence against women. In workplaces, schools and communities all over Australia, we’re asking you to stand up, speak out and act to end gendered violence.
It's time to put the elimination of violence against women firmly on the agenda in our community by organising a White Ribbon event - a march, meal, webinar, meeting or more - and invite people to join you in ongoing action.”

This week, students in Year 11 ran workshops with our younger students in Years 7-10.

The initiative allowed open and transparent discussions about violence against women and how men need to change attitudes and behaviours to prevent violence.

I would like to thank Mrs Sawyer and her team for taking the White Ribbon Day theme and giving students across the Senior School a very strong message about developing respectful relationships with women.

Introducing ‘The Rite Journey’ Year 9 program 2021

The College is excited to announce the introduction of ‘The Rite Journey’ in 2021.

The Rite Journey is a unique educational program designed to support the development of self-aware, vital, responsible, and resilient adults.

Given the current lack of Rites of Passage in the western world, young people are left to invent their own, which are often unhealthy and unsafe.

The Rite Journey reinvents the traditional process of a Rite of Passage to assist in transforming the adolescent from dependency to responsibility.

The program will involve additional training from the College staff and a very strong involvement from parents of Year 9 students. Students will also be involved in a 2-day camping expedition at the end of next year that will further develop our ‘Boys to Men’.  Please visit https://theritejourney.com/ for further information.

Year 7 Brainstorm Production

VERBAL COMBAT

On Friday 6 November, Year 7 hosted a Brainstorm Production presentation titled, ‘Verbal Combat’. Brainstorm is an education-based theatre company that delivers performances to student groups highlighting particular social issues that are relevant to the modern student. Verbal Combat is a performance that explores the complex dynamics that emerge within peer groups and the harmful impact of Cyberbullying. The performers break from character at the conclusion of their performance and lead a group discussion, encouraging students to examine their own online behaviour and encourage them to create more respectful environments at school and at home.
