A Week to Be Remembered.

The SRC this have been extraordinarily busy with the many demands to their time with the celebration of NAIDOC Week and Remembrance Day. Both have been very important events and we certainly did enjoy working together as a team, planning, organising and delivering events that the student body could embrace and enjoy.

The SRC were proudly involved in bringing NAIDOC Week celebrations to Collingwood College. The students were very happy be involved with such an important and enjoyable event. NAIDOC week celebrates the History, Culture and Achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is the acronym for the National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee and it is usually celebrated during the July school holidays, but this year it was moved to this week (8th November to 15th of November)

NAIDOC Week is celebrated by Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities alike. This week at Collingwood College we celebrated with:

MONDAY: Speech explaining NAIDOC

TUESDAY: Flags raised at Flagpole

WEDNESDAY:: Dreamtime stories read out in Fiction room at the Library

THURSDAY: Colouring of pictures

FRIDAY: Dreamtime films in Rm 2

The other memorable celebration this week has been Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a special memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to commemorate the members of their Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the war ceased…weapons were laid down, hostilities ended and the war was declared over…We want to remember  all of those that fought in the war and died.

It is an important day, as important as Anzac Day.

We observe a minute’s silence to ensure that we think of all the fallen and to acknowledge the great sacrifice that was made.

                                            Lest we forget.
