Levels 5 & 6

Level 5 Update

In Term 4 the grade 5 students have been studying ‘Changes and Charges' for our inquiry topic. Students have been learning what electricity is, how we store electricity, and the creation of electricity by humans. The students investigated the 5 different types of renewable energy: wind, solar, hydro, biomass & geothermal in small groups, presenting their findings.

The students enjoyed creating circuits practically using equipment, connecting light bulbs and confidently used their problem-solving skills to create circuits with switches. They extended this process by connecting single circuits to create large circuits with multiple light bulbs and switches, connecting the motors and pulleys and following instructions when using the solar kits. Alternatively, with the electric circuit kits being rotated around the 4 classrooms, students investigated a scientist of their choice. Students brainstormed famous scientists, what they invented and what should be included in their presentation.

Level 5 Cooking

Children in Level 5 have learnt to cook fried rice. It is so good when they put into practice what they have learnt. They also get to experience the achievement of producing a meal for the family.

Level 6 Update

An amazing time was had by all at last Friday's Fantastical FunFair.  The Level 6's raised more than $4,500 towards the further development of Jack Sun's playground.  We can't put into words what a great day it was so one of our talented students put it into video instead.
