Assistant Principal News

Another busy yet fruitful week here at Marian Catholic College.

In particular, it has been a busy few weeks for Year 11 students. Not only have they moved into their HSC year, they have attended their Retreat last week, successfully completed their first fundraising initiative on Melbourne Cup Day, been inducted into student leadership through a special Zoom Assembly and taken part in Zoom Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.

Firstly, I wish to thank all those students, parents and teachers who participated in our Zoom Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. This transition from Year 11 to Year 12 is so crucial in the learning and progression of the students, and as such a targeted learning conversation becomes of vital importance as the HSC begins.

For those families unable to participate this time, I urge you to make this a priority for the next set of Conferences early in Term 2 2021.

For those that did attend, many students received powerful advice not only on strengths and areas of improvement, but also in terms of subject suitability for each student. It is crucial that students and parents deeply consider the advice given to them by their teachers and leaders in order to find the best suite of subjects and levels for their HSC Year.

In addition, Year 11 are to be commended on their participation and enthusiasm during the recent Year 12 Retreat. These three days are invaluable for those students to reflect on the challenging 2020 we have had, to enjoy the present and to equip themselves for the further challenges ahead on their HSC and life journey.

I also wish to congratulate all the chosen Student Leaders for 2021. These leaders have demonstrated commitment to the Marian Vision and Mission throughout their secondary education. I am confident they will lead with purpose, authenticity, and moral integrity in the coming twelve months.

Last Friday we celebrated with Year 12 2020 at their Graduation Dinner held at Yoogali Club. It is a fitting way to end a week that saw students complete their HSC Exams. Congratulations Year 12 and we look forward to sharing with you in celebrating your results at the end of the year.

Finally, we are excited to be hosting incoming Year 7 students in our Oh! Day on Friday. Students will be given an opportunity to experience Homeroom, the Peer Support Program and a range of Key Learning Areas, including: Science, Technology and PDHPE. We look forward to sharing these wonderful experiences with our new Marian family.

Yours in Learning,
