Announcing Year 12 Captains and Leaders for 2021

By Vicky Frannje (Head of VCE, VCAL & VET)

It is with much excitement that I announce our Year 12 Student Leadership Team for 2021.  Our process is a rigorous one, students are required to submit a written application, attend an interview and then deliver a speech in front of their peers and staff.

Voting was particularly difficult this year with an outstanding number of applicants.  I extend my thanks to all those who applied, it certainly made voting very challenging.

Our Captains for 2021 will be Jonathan F and Melody M, the leadership team will then consist of Sam D, Will D, Grace H and Claudia W.

Once again, thank you to all those who bravely took on the challenge of the application process.  We look forward to working with you all in 2021.

BHCS Platypulse Team KVB Sustainable Cities Finalists

By Allen Dickson (Enrichment Coordinator)

You might remember the article I wrote in the newsletter a few weeks ago about how our Platypulse Team - Molly R, Mitch B, Josh T, Josh N and Mr Paul Scott - had been shortlisted in the Education Section of the Keep Victoria Beautiful 'Sustainable Cities Awards'. Well last Thursday night was the KVB Awards ceremony, online for the first time.

Amidst such distinguished entrants as The City of Monash (who won Most Sustainable City of the Year) and Libby Fisher (who won the Young Legend for her Koala and Wildlife Crusade), our small team represented the school well. Though we didn't win the award, it was a fantastic achievement to make the finals. The Education Award was won by Athol Road Primary School for a comprehensive redevelopment of an entire school Environmental Program - super impressive and a very worthy winner.

But BHCS didn't go home empty handed... There was an environmental trivia quiz before the awards began and I won. I'll be sure to share my meat tray or box of choccies with the school community. I think everyone will get 1/60th of a sausage or a crumb of a Ferrero Rocher.

VCE Product Design 2020 Exhibition

By Kenny Wong (Secondary Teacher)

Unfortunately due to current restrictions we can't invite you to our exhibition but we can bring the exhibition to you! Need some inspiration?  Check out the amazing pieces from our VCE Product design students including a hand made guitar, a full size day lounge and a coffee table with no legs.

The students started their Unit 3 & 4 folio process during head start in 2019 and continued this into mid 2020. Production of the pieces started in May / June while Victoria was in the middle of the 2nd lockdown.

We endured many zoom folio consultations and the unknown of when we would be able to return to the workshop.

In such an unusual year we are very proud of their accomplishments and the pieces they have produced. Enjoy the images!

Operation Christmas Child - A Special Thank you

We would like to express a special thank you to all the BHCS families who contributed to Operation Christmas Child, your generosity has blessed many children who without you would not have received anything for Christmas.  Mrs Nicholas delivered 37 very full boxes, $305 dollars and a box of spare items to the collection site, last week.  Thank you again to all involved.
