From the Commodore's Desk

Our Communications Director asked me again if I have anything to contribute to this week’s newsletter. Every time I thought about this for the next hour, it seemed that all the things I could say would be covered by other contributors, e.g. new Sport Boat racing division (by Des) and volunteer thank you for Sunday’s Discovery Day event (by Mark & Chris).

So, I shall make it a little more personal this edition. It seems I have developed another pulse this past couple of weeks. My own is usually reasonably steady until I stand up in front of a large group to talk.  I’m more comfortable circulating around smaller groups at tables or the bar. Besides, I always go beetroot red – so embarrassing. Someone commented that I have been on radio and TV, so what’s the big deal? I can’t see the audience – that’s the big deal! Oh, and believe me, I am not going to try and imagine the entire room full of naked people either!

The other pulse is a whole lot more erratic. Of course, I’m talking about our Club. There have been moments when I thought I would rather be sitting in front of the myriad pieces of the internals of a 10-inch notebook computer prior to putting it all back together and expecting it to boot up first go!

But no, I have a new and exciting role with many responsibilities. That’s a fact, but it is also a fact that I have had many encouraging conversations, emails, texts and phone calls of support for which I am very grateful. It’s also a fact that your Club has an excellent Board of Management who had been, and continue to be, forging ahead within the scope of each respective portfolio, supporting you in your sailing related activities to the best of their abilities with strong volunteer support teams.

I expect that as the weeks go by, this pulse will stabilise, as I begin to balance admin with my love of being with my sailing family at the Club or out on the water. Happy sailing this next week.

Thank you for reading.
