From your Wellbeing Captains

On Monday 24th May, the preps, the School Captains, the Vice Captains, the Wellbeing Captains, some parents and the teachers went to Eastland Shopping Centre to learn more about how to be a good friend.

There were three activities that everyone enjoyed. One was the Friendship Ninja Zone Activation. This activity was run by Edwina. She talked about unhealthy and healthy friendships (Friendology) and gave students the opportunity to practise their Friendology skills. They also created a friend-o-meter using lots of things like straws, feathers, paper and card. We also talked about how to be kind in the yard. We wrote these ideas down on a balloon, which made a kindness tree.

The second activity was the Mini Beast session. We were put into small groups with an adult, and traveled around Eastland trying to find the 4 mini-beasts using a map. Once we located a mini-beast we had to write down a code word on the map which lead us to the next mini-beast. We loved ticking off the creatures that we found. At the end when we completed the task we got a delicious treat for finding all the beasts, a yummy donut.

The third session was the Friendship Ninja Fitness Class. This session introduced students to mindfulness and emotional regulation through martial arts and incorporating elements of the URstrong Friendology concepts. We did practice a few martial art moves, but we know to only practice these moves in a martial arts class because someone may get hurt.

At the end of the day we got another treat, a show bag, which included a sticky lizard, jelly beans, stickers, headband and some information for mum and dad. We had lots of fun and we can’t wait to learn more about Friendology.

Here are some comments that the students made about the excursion...

“I liked the mini beast walk. It was fun to find and learn about them.” – Jimmy.

“I liked the ninja training,. It was fun and the teachers were funny.” - Lula

“I liked the friend-o-meter, because I like craft.” - Macy

Adalyn (PAC) was a wonderful supportive friend for Tyler when he had a blood nose. Adalyn showed compassion and kindness. Thank you Adalyn.

I was blown away by the amount of families which turned up on a public holiday after we had experienced such a wild and windy few days. So many people gave up their time to assist with making our school safe and presentable; even those who had just spent the previous few days clearing and repairing their own properties. Thank you so much to those families who attended. It was great to see so many children, students (past and present), parents and staff having such a fun time whilst supporting our school.  What an incredible community we have.
