Prep Term 3 Overview
Prep 2021 Term Three
Welcome back to Term 3. This year is flying by so quickly. I hope that you all had a restful holiday and are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.
Religious Education
In Religious Education our focus for this term is identifying and explaining the figures in the local parish and the wider church and identifying groups we belong to. We will continue developing the students' understanding of belonging through Bible stories.
This will include looking at the disciples and their journey. We shall be visiting the Church and looking at symbols and icons that can be found in all churches and understood by all who see them.
English
We will be continuing on with our SMART Spelling program focusing on sound and letter relationships including digraphs and trigraphs. In reading we shall continue to explore multiple strategies for reading and understanding texts. In writing we will be learning about persuasive writing, we will create short statements and extended pieces of writing on a number of different topics.
Maths
In Maths we will be investigating length by directly and indirectly comparing different objects and deciding which is longer and shorter using non-standard units. We will also continue to develop strategies in both addition and subtraction strategies such as making things equal and multiplication through repeated addition. We shall also sort, describe and name familiar two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects in the environment.
Inquiry
How do we inspire change?
Students will use the question, ‘What is in our local area?’ to develop knowledge of the local area and Melbourne, leading to investigations of the States and Territories of Australia. Through this inquiry we shall be exploring significant buildings, statues and landmarks around Melbourne. Students will create and design an advertisement for a chosen State or Territory based on the key features of that place.
SEL (Social and Emotional Learning)
In Social and Emotional Learning we shall be developing positive self talk and strategies for persevering and maintaining positive interactions with others.
Specialists
Students will continue to have specialist classes on Thursday and Friday (please see timetable below). They are required to wear their sports uniforms on Tuesday and Friday. They will also need to bring in their library bag and books every Friday.
