A Snapshot of Learning by the Specialist Teachers

A Snapshot of Learning by The Specialist Teachers

Last week we celebrated NAIDOC Week and students were engaged in many learning experiences across the curriculum. Our amazing specialist teachers organised and planned some hands-on and engaging activities for all students.

In PE, the teachers organised a few rotations of different Indigenous Games that were a great success with students across all year levels.

In Art, the students created a collaborative art piece called Bunjil The Eagle.  Each student decorated a feather that was added to create a giant Bunjil The Eagle. We are excited to showcase Bunjil The Eagle in a future newsletter once the art piece has been finished.

Also in Japanese lessons, the students compared the culture between Japanese and Indigenous people of Australia.

In Music, the students explored the instruments and listened to Indigenous musicians.

In recognition of NAIDOC Week, the grade 5 and 6 STEM students examined how the Boomerang moves through the air. In particular, students learnt the science of why the Boomerang can return back. In short it is the combination of unbalanced Airfoils; that is the reason why the Boomerang can return back to the person who has thrown it. Despite this not all Boomerangs are designed to return back!

A big thank you to our wonderful specialists teachers Ivana Dabb, Bianca Gilling, Andrew Puls, Laura Nackashian, Ahmet Latifoglu (Dr A)  and Hiroko Ito-Ryan for organising such a wonderful week of learning for the students at St Simon’s.
