NAIDOC Week Celebrations

Last week, we celebrated NAIDOC Week and students were engaged in many learning experiences across the curriculum to gain a better understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s history, culture and achievements.

We created a whole school human Aboriginal Flag. Students were asked to wear a coloured top which formed part of a section of the Aboriginal Flag. There was a real buzz of excitement as a drone took photos of the event.

The special buddy activities were a great success and many of the co-constructed art works can be seen in classrooms and in the atrium. If you get a chance, check them out. Furthermore, students in their specialist classes had an opportunity to learn about the sport, music and art of Aboriginal people.

At our Staff Meeting on Tuesday, staff created beautiful wooden crosses during our prayer session for the display in the school office.

Last  week was a great opportunity for students to engage in a range of activities to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s history, culture and achievements. It is a time of celebration and connection between all peoples. Students will continue to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout this term as part of our Inquiry Based Learning units of work.
