Recreation Term Three

A reminder that you can find the Recreation calendar on Reach. This is regularly updated, and we are working at getting the Recreation calendar displaying at least two weeks in advance. We have been hampered by the continual wet weather, as we seek to ensure our Recreation activities reflect all weather options.

One of our newest members of staff, Mr Mark Jordan has commenced as a Boarding Supervisor in Anchorage House and will also take on the Recreation Officer role as of Week Four.

Mark has been busily planning some great activities for the coming weeks and we can't wait to explore some of new options that he has in mind including a number of water-based activities.

Winter sport is also a busy time for a lot of our boarders, and this means that sometimes on a Sunday they just want to relax. Next term for the Middle School houses there will be compulsory Recreation on one of the days of the weekend. We believe that it is important to have our students out of the house and engaging in various activities over a weekend and so will be encouraging students to get out and moving. We will provide you with more information on this at the end of this term.

Over the first weeks of this term, we have been to every wet weather activity that Albany has to offer and now we are hoping for some sunshine. We are super keen to do the new pump track at PCYC and haven’t even been able to do the skateboard track, as it is too dangerous when wet. We have tried to run mountain bike riding on the tracks on Mount Adelaide, however these were washed out too.

We have continued to develop our connections within boarding across the various houses. Every Sunday evening Breaksea hosts Endeavour and Eclipse hosts Anchorage for a shared dinner. Our boarders are enjoying this opportunity to spend time getting to know boarders in other age groups.

Boarding's Got Talent - Mini Olympics

Sunday night, 8 August, was the closing ceremony at the Tokyo Olympics and so boarding also had their Olympics celebration last night. The night was a competition between the four boarding houses, with each house divided into two teams. There was an explosion of colour and sparkles, as each house competed for the 'Best Dressed' award and then achieved additional points for teamwork.

The events of the night included, completing a large puzzle map of Australia, hoop and ball relay, leader ball and giant soccer. After a round robin competing in these areas, the houses joined together to compete in tug of war and tunnel ball. There was much hilarity, as Endeavour House with the Year Seven to Nine girls were the overall winners of tug of war, beating the senior boys in Eclipse in the final match. At the end of the evening the winning house was Endeavour and they took home the boarding trophy and chocolates. They also have a pizza dinner to look forward to, in the near future. Thank you to all the students who competed throughout the evening and the staff who helped run all of the events. Enjoy the photos.

Paragon Games has been added to the Recreation schedule and some students have been enjoying this. This is an arcade style facility where small numbers of students can pay by the hour to play games. It seems to appeal to our boarders. They are only able to attend on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday and only once per week. This is in line with the Plaza being allowed once a week also.

There have been a number of good movies on offer at the cinemas of late with a large group going to the recent showing of Black Widow, the latest in the Marvel series of movies. The seniors also attended the showing of The Suicide Squad this past weekend. Reviews of the movies were all positive.
