Learning asset supports distance learning transition

Persistence, responsibility, organisation, planning and resilience are terms used when describing the learning asset, self-management. These traits were put into swift action by staff, parents and children last week, resulting in the successful implementation of distance learning. Thank you to all involved. Learning Mentors continue to create positive learning experiences that build faith, curiosity, agency, knowledge, skills and values during this time of distance learning and our children have responded in a positive manner, displaying our college value of doing your best. Wellbeing is a priority during these challenging times and if tension arises for yourself or child while engaging in the program, leave it until a more suitable time.

Ellie Phillips, our Physical Education Learning Mentor, set a dance task for the children this week that quickly turned into a dance challenge prompted by Charlie N in Year 2, bringing much joy to all who participated and viewed the dance videos. We have some budding dancers in our community who have embraced the challenge. What fun it has been! For more details about the dance challenge, please see the 2021 Staff page in this edition of il giornale.

The importance of play in child development is well documented. It supports cognitive, physical, communication and social/emotional development. It is also a natural stress reliever and an outlet that allows children to work through concerns. Our Learning Mentors include play in their program and it is most effective with open- ended materials that can be used in different ways to nurture creativity in children. If you have a chance, take the time to be a part of their play; it makes for quality time with your child. A distance learning assembly was posted on Seesaw today. Thank you to the children who offered prayers for our community and shared their learning.

Connections the focus for this term's inquiry

The School of Wonder children's inquiry focus this term is 'We are connected to many people and places'. Here are some photos of the children exploring this focus during Wonder Play last week, before the current lockdown began, and also during distance learning.

Pup pays visit to School of Wonder

Learning Mentor Stephen Kealy's new puppy Macie paid a visit to the School of Wonder today. Macie is eight weeks old and is a pure bred Border Collie - she is also super cute!  Macie was bred near Mackay in North Queensland and comes from the same breeder as one of tennis champ Ash Barty's dogs!

Children draw themselves as Peanuts characters

The college's ICT Administrator Jamie Hatch offered the children a fun drawing challenge from Apple this week. Students could use Pages on their iPad or pencil and paper to create themselves as a Peanuts character. Here's what some of the children came up with:
