Build your own Gingerbread House

We all understand the importance of helping out where we can. One of our parents contacted me about the following. So if you're looking for an activity to do over the weekend this might be for you. As a bonus, if you engage with this and email me a photo of you and your family with your construction it will be published in the school newsletter. Email your photo to ivanhoeprimaryvic@gmail.com

Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships

The Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships is back on again in August this year. It's a really fun event with the kids marching in an opening ceremony and racing on some pretty easy courses. If you would like to sign up for the Ivanhoe Primary School team, please contact Stephen at stephen.masel@lsv.com.au . More details can be found at www.interschools.com.au .

Make play part of your routine

Children need routine and structure as much as they need free time and play.

While social distancing rules are in place, children are unable to play with their friends in the way that they are used to. This makes play time at home especially important.

Routines are an important source of safety and stability for children. While things are probably different for your family right now, it is especially important to schedule regular times to play together.

 Share a story together

Stories offer children a way to make sense and meaning of what is happening to them, through the safety of a fictional character they can identify with. They have a clear beginning, middle and end, and can help children to talk about otherwise difficult emotions and feelings. Telling and re-telling stories can help children to find resolutions for their own experiences.

Jess Staines is the director of the  Koori Curriculum .  She does some fabulous you tube videos of Storytime. These teach younger students about  indigenous culture.

2022 Enrolments

New families, or families of current students with siblings, intending to enrol a new student at our school for next year are encouraged to enrol now! It is only by knowing our student numbers now are we able to staff the school effectively. We are already workforce planning for next year so please make your enrolment count and contact the school office as soon as possible. This applies to new students only.

Fair News

We are looking for donations big or small for our school fair- Saturday the 20th of November! Here's what our students have to say.

Ivanhoe Primary School is a learning environment of students, teachers and parents that has been a central part of the Ivanhoe community for over 160 years. Our school’s mission to provide a positive, vibrant and inspiring environment where our 600 students are valued and encouraged to succeed is not only reflected within our school but the wider Ivanhoe community as well. Please read the attached letter and IPS Fair donation form..

If you would like to contribute to our fair or discuss your options as a Supporter or Friend of the Fair, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly on 0421 176 673 or climbatree1@gmail.com.

Please read the School Fair News page in this edition of "Inside Ivanhoe".

QR Codes and Face Masks

A reminder that all adults, including staff, on entering school grounds must  check in using the QR codes. Face Masks must be worn on school property.

It is as uncomfortable to remind someone to follow the rules as it is to be reminded so please let's all avoid this feeling by doing the right thing in the first place.

Year 6 Canberra Camp

Canberra Camp has been rescheduled for the week beginning the 4th of October 2021.

School Events - Trivia Night and the Disco

Dont worry, we are looking for a new date for the disco and the Trivia Night is still planned to go ahead on the 14th August.

PFA is looking for two parents to share the PFA Coordinator role in 2022

Our wonderful PFA coordinator leaves IPS at the end of the year along with her son so we are looking for someone(s) to take the reins. If this is, or might be you, please email Jo Anderson on joanne.anderson@education.vic.gov.au or phone me at school for a chat.

Finally,

I was looking for some resources to help children cope with stress as a result of COVID and came across this document (attached below) that has been adapted from the World Health Organisation to provide tips for parents and carers to help support their children.

You're probably already across this but it's a good refresher and is available translated in the following languages: Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Dinka, Hindi, Khmer, Oromo, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali ,Tamil, Tiginya, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Urdu and  Vietnamese at https://emergingminds.com.au/resources/helping-children-cope-with-stress-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/

Remember it’s normal to feel stressed, worried or anxious during times of uncertainty so be kind to yourself. See you next week.
